SUMMARY: Provides instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development.

Responsible for day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of both students, staff and activities. Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary and enforces school policy.

Salary Range: $105,763-$126,286

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Interacts with students in a constructive manner to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.

Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff.

Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies.

Participates in district-wide activities, inservices, committees, as appropriate.

Implements policy and procedure changes from the School Committee, or the State and Federal level at the building level.

Prepares the School budget, works with business manager on budgeting/purchasing.

Establishes priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers with allowable anticipated funds.

Works with Central Office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school.

Maintains current information on legal/financial developments of educational legislative reforms.

Plans for vertical articulation with Lewiston Middle School.

Plans for horizontal articulation with other Elementary Schools.

Implements the School Department Philosophy of Education and Building Philosophy.

Assumes overall responsibility for standards of achievement in school.

Interviews and recommends candidates for hire.

Supervises and evaluates the staff.

Is the curriculum leader.

Makes recommendations relative to teacher assignments as to subject, grade level and room

placement.

Approves and evaluates all parent and/or other group activities.

Supervises the maintenance and confidentiality of adequate and accurate student records.

Coordinates the activities of all staff, professional and support.

Cooperates in the coordination of federal and state programs.

Is the spokesman for public relations purpose to interpret a program or school to the public.

Administers and supervises day-to-day school activities curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular.

Responsible for the assignment of students to grades and classes according to system policies.

Responsible for final determination of the retention or promotion of students according to school

system policies.

Serves as educational leader, and coordinates activities of special supervisors in cooperation with the Superintendent.

Coordinates daily and yearly attendance reports.

Maintains payroll information to include days worked or absent and the reason therefor.

Coordinates and insures that sufficient supplies, textbooks, equipment, instructional aids, etc., are on hand so that teachers may teach.

Coordinates contacts with appropriate agencies who in some way assist students, or families.

Oversees the total operation of the physical plant.

Serves as chairperson of all PET proceedings and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of PET recommendations.

Is responsible for dispensing of medication when nurse is not present and injuries that need to be

taken care of.

Processes the paperwork needed in regards to bus discipline and meets with students, telephones

parents and coordinates future strategies with bus drivers and bus company.

Meets and coordinates school activities with PTO organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises all employees in the Elementary School . Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree in elementary educational administration and/or supervision.

Successful experience as an elementary teacher/administrator.

State certification as an elementary school principal.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Teaching Certificate. and Valid Administrator Certificate with an elementary school endorsement.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
