What you'll be doing...
The currencies of 5G enable new use cases. Some of these use cases include MEC (Mobile Access Edge Computing) which can enable new services on existing platforms or new hardware platforms provided that the right software infrastructure is available on the device. Device Technology Team is chartered with providing a single point of accountability for overseeing and driving device requirement definition and technical direction for emerging device platform portfolio. The individual reports to a Senior Manager and interfaces extensively with many functions within the business to perform the role.
Establish and develop relationship with direct and indirect suppliers of device HW and SW subsystems for the purposes of developing MEC enabled products and services for our customers.
Establish and develop relationship with enterprise customers that would utilize MEC-enabled devices in order to create new revenue opportunities to meet the Verizon corporate strategic objectives.
Establish and develop relationships with device middleware providers that enable Cloud Computing to foster a wider eco-system of suppliers to drive vendor diversity and to reduce component cost.
Collaborate directly with Verizon's Enterprise, and Consumer Business Units in setting requirements and developing new growth opportunities.
Proactively looking for areas and lead efforts to improve technical specifications.
Provide support and leadership for product / service launches and post launch issues.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have:
Bachelor's degree in EE/CS; Master's degree in EE/CS preferred.
10+ years of experience in wireless or cellular industry.
3+ years of technology architecture experience and / or SW development (C#, Python, C++ desirable).
3+ years of experience in vendor management is preferred.
Candidate needs to be skilled in the writing of technical requirements & test plans.
Good mobile telecommunications industry knowledge, including experience with handset .manufacturers, network equipment vendors, and/or chipset vendors.
Working knowledge of 3GPP (LTE, 5GNR) wireless technologies.
Conceptual understanding of device management protocols (OMA-DM, LWM2M, Remote Desktop Protocol, MQTT) is preferred.
Conceptual understanding of IP networking (L2-L4) including router, switch, load-balancing and firewalls.
Experience designing and using web services APIs (RESTful SOAP) is preferred.
Experience developing applications / services for Android or Linux preferred.
Conceptual understanding of mobile embedded operating systems, edge computing platforms, and client-server concepts, protocols, APIs and performance criteria to enable edge computing.
Conceptual understanding of microservice based architectures, container deployments and management tools like Kubernetes, Docker, and Mesos.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azurewave, and GCS preferred.
Ability to collaborate and provide technical leadership with multiple internal and external organizations in a fast paced environment in order to define device architecture, specifications and risks.
