What You'll Do:

This technical leadership role will be responsible for design and development or core platform engineering automation. This role will drive the strategy for infrastructure automation and be charged to improve application adoption, reduce overall operational support, and increase end-user usability of our platform services. In addition, this role will provide technical leadership to the team and serve as a technical liaison between internal technology departments, interacting directly with our core customers. The ideal candidate is passionate about new technologies (CloudNative and OpenSource),

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reports to the Executive Director of Platform Automation and Cloud Engineering

Development Leadership

  • Spearhead efforts to continuously improve the team's automation offering including requirement gathering, development leadership, test planning, deployment coordination, creative designs\architectures, user acceptance testing\demos, and regular stakeholder engagement.

Automation Excellence

  • Develop, improve, and maintain the team's core automation framework suite for management of application (Kubernetes\Helm\Docker\ \Harness), infrastructure (Terraform\Chef\Puppet), security enforcement via pipelines, and cost optimization respective lifecycles using best in breed solutions.

Innovator

  • Propose and prototype new "forward thinking" solutions to aimed to improve overall cloud experience.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure the reliability of the delivered services meet implied SLAs to help the organization achieve both internal and external quality standard excellence for the cloud platform. Manage and participate in the implementation of production changes during defined maintenance windows and support on call rotation.

Cloud Native Design

  • Ensure solutions delivered are highly-available, cost optimized, and secure by design. Take advantage of new cloud offerings to improve overall security posture

Vision

  • Drive technology roadmaps, project ideation, and end-of-life technology plans to keep platform current and optimized to deliver value for customers. Be focused on the end to end developer experience from development through deployment.

Team Player

  • Effectively communicate project and operational service issues to senior management promptly with observations, decisions, and recommendations for corrective measures.

Qualifications:

  • Cloud Experience
  • Strong knowledge of secure cloud infrastructure design and components, such as: servers, operating systems, networks, IAM, and storage. Cloud Certifications specifically AWS Cloud certification would be preferred
  • Infra Automation
  • Expert knowledge in core automation development toolchain including Terraform, Jenkins, Git, Harness
  • Container Management
  • Strong knowledge in Kubernetes deployment frameworks\platforms including: Helm, Docker, Rancher, kept, EKS, CrossPlane.
  • Cloud Governance
  • Pipeline enforcement using automation tools to validate compliance with standards around 1) security 2) compliance standards or 3) cost control standards.
  • CICD Leadership
  • Mastery of CICD best practices in a large organization. (GitOps/DevOps, secure builds, secure code promotion, deployments (Harness\Argo), automated testing (app and infra), integration of policy frameworks, cost-optimization, SLSA best practices)
  • Resilient Design
  • Experience with architecting, implementing and maintaining highly available mission critical environments for 24/7 availability.
  • Communication Skills
  • Great communication skills, especially with working with diverse and distributed teams
  • Customer Focused - need to have proven track record of being customer focused in terms of delivered solutions, stakeholder management, and operational support.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Deliver on commitments

  • Ability to work independently as well as lead a team to solve complex problems in a timely manner.
  • Agile Leader
  • Strong knowledge of agile software development practices as well as being pod leader to drive direction, mentor and unblock junior members, and breakdown complex problems into deliverable work.

Technical Skills & Background

  • [Required] Strong hands-on experience scripting/development skills in Python, Ruby, Go, Java, JavaScript, etc. in a corporate environment.

  • [Required] Hands-on experience with: Terraform, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Kafka, Github, and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible

  • [Required] Relevant experience with configuration and implementation of IaaS, Infrastructure as code, AWS, Azure, etc.

Certifications

  • [Required] AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification or higher strongly desired

  • [Preferred] Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud

Education & Training

  • [Required] Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Mathematics, etc.), or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • [Required] 10+ years experience in IT systems installation, operations, administration, and maintenance of cloud systems / virtualized servers

  • [Preferred] Experience working in a financial services or highly regulated environment preferred
