The Business Development & Strategy group defines the strategic planning process for the super region, including long range planning, strategic planning, and strategy reviews with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Our team leads important strategic initiatives on behalf of the Americas region, which includes partnering with subregion teams in Canada and Latin America as well as the Medtronic Care Management Services (MCMS) and Integrated Health Solutions (IHS) businesses, both of which are domiciled in our super region. We also partner with global business units to support development and implementation of business strategies.
A Day In The Life
The Business Development and Strategy (BD&S) Principal will serve as the primary project manager for a variety of business development and strategy initiatives within Medtronic's Americas super region, with an emphasis on supporting realization of digital health and value-based healthcare strategies. These initiatives may include: new opportunity assessments and deal execution, including acquisitions, structured investments, alliances and partnerships, joint ventures, technology licensure and co-promotion and marketing agreements. The successful candidate will leverage creativity and determination in a vital role to manage business development and strategy projects, serving as point of contact and lead in developing value proposition and building the strategic rationale, landscaping and opportunity identification, evaluation, execution and tracking and monitoring, as well as constructing and presenting analyses to and seeking alignment from senior management.
In This Role You Will:
Perform market / industry research and analysis, including target and competitive landscaping and profiling, and monitor areas of strategic interest
Lead development of strategic rationale and supporting analysis for proposed transactions and transaction relationship/fit with Medtronic strategic objectives including identification and assessment of opportunities and risks as well as operational and integration planning
Lead detailed financial analyses and develop valuation models for proposed transactions
Develop and analyze transaction structures in cooperation with legal personnel
Serve as a key contact for third parties, lawyers, Medtronic Corporate Development and Medtronic business unit and functional resources in support of proposed transactions
Actively participate in execution and negotiation process in cooperation with Medtronic Corporate Development
Prepare and present pipeline and proposed transactions to senior leadership
Manage or lead due diligence processes including coordination of cross functional personnel
Coordinate business development meetings and briefing materials for major industry conferences
Assist in the development and implementation of the Americas regional strategic plan, and ad hoc projects as needed
Nice to Haves:
Robust financial modeling including forecasting and pro-forma P&L development and valuation including probability-adjusted discounted cash flow analysis, market comparable analysis, etc.
Established competence in market analysis and assessments
Strong quantitative and technical / computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong data management and research skills
Management consulting, investment banking (M&A) or corporate strategy experience strongly preferred
Medical device / health care industry experience with significant exposure to digital health and healthcare IT engagements and value-based initiatives / opportunities
Experience in preparing, reviewing or negotiating legal documents including contracts, NDAs, SPAs, etc.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight, prioritize projects and deliver quality results within tight time constraints
Strong work ethic and collaborative approach with a clear attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
