Maize USD 266 is seeking an experienced administrator to lead Hope Learning Center. Hope Learning Center (HLC), a special day school located in Mt. Hope, hosts three programs. They include: Transitional Skills Program (TransNet), Therapeutic Social/Emotional Day School Program, and Interim Alternative Education Setting (IAES).

This Principal serves as the primary administrator and instructional leader of a special education attendance center; establishing and maintaining educational programs in compliance with District objectives; directing the operations of the school site; establishing and maintaining a positive school climate for the learning, behavior, safety, health, and welfare of students and personnel. This is a 12-month position.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Masters degree from an accredited university and active building leadership license

Special Knowledge/Skills: School and building operations, curriculum and instruction, budgeting, personnel management, implementation of policies and procedures, data interpretation, verbal and written communication, special education

Experience: At least 2 years of building leadership experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide oversight of a diverse community of special education students in compliance with state and federal law, Board of Education policy, administrative regulations, and consent decrees.

  • Participate in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for attending students alongside the LEA representative; verify the meetings are conducted annually and the necessary records and legally required documents are completed and processed.

  • Counsel students, recommend, and implement student intervention and/or disciplinary actions in accordance with District policy and procedures.

  • Plan and coordinate extra-curricular activities for students, including interaction with students at general education sites.

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and ongoing monitoring of special education programs and related services during regular and/or extended school year sessions to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and local district policies and procedures.

  • Analyze data to establish appropriate goals and objectives in context of improving academic achievement and social-emotional growth for students.

  • Promote use of research-based interventions, strategies, and instruction.

  • Supervise, evaluate, recruit, and interview for employment of special education teachers, related service staff, and classified staff as applicable.

  • Assist with the planning, organization, and presentation of professional development for licensed and classified staff to directly enhance performance and improve student learning.

  • Monitor the operation of the facility and coordinate efforts surrounding the maintenance of the school site to meet the needs of the school population.

  • Monitor the operation of the school cafeteria; collaborate with designated school personnel regarding the provision of food service.

  • In conjunction with the district of residence, provide the necessary oversight to ensure the safe and appropriate transportation of students to and from school, work sites, and/or extracurricular activities.

  • Encourage and initiate collaboration with various school and community agencies to help meet the needs of students with special needs.

  • Provide parents with information concerning the special needs of the students, special education law, and conflict resolution.

  • Develop and maintain an inventory control system for special education materials and equipment.

  • Develop and maintain a system for evaluating, selecting, and maintaining the equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for the delivery of special education services.

  • Prepare the school budgets and maintain control over budgetary allocations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone, two-way radio, 10 passenger van and/or 14 passenger minibus

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing

Motion: Repetitive hand motion, some walking, occasional reaching, carrying, stooping, and kneeling

Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds

Environment: Prolonged and irregular hours, primarily indoors with some outdoor activities, may be noisy

Mental Demands: Maintain focus, decision making, remain composed under pressure

Salary Information

Salary based and education and experience. Minimum is $96,000

The district offers a base salary of $46,050 or based on experience/credentials and contributes $380 per month toward district provided health insurance.
