Job Title: Principal Android Architect

Department: SW Mobile and Cloud R&D

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview:

Insulet Corporation, maker of Omnipod, is the leader in tubeless insulin pumps. We are looking for an Android Architect to build our next generation of Android mobile apps and platform. This is a fast paced and FDA regulated environment working on challenging problems. Your work will impact the lives of people living with diabetes!

As an Android Architect

You will play a critical role in ensuring that android applications are designed, developed and implemented meeting the best practices and architectural patterns. You will work with a team of Systems engineers, UX designers, software engineering team to ensure different customer features are designed, implemented, and documented according to medical device design and development requirements.

Candidates in this position will be involved in every phase of the project life-cycle from requirements through delivery and ensure that a solution is well engineered, and maintainable. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction. Experience with medical device industry is a big plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and deliver software architecture, diagrams, design documents

  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to understand requirements

  • Gather requirements and translate them into a maintainable and testable design at software component level

  • Evaluate and apply emergent technologies and best practices to current design; develop prototypes

  • Mentor and guide the team on coding standard, patterns, strategy and best practices in Android Mobile App Development as well as performing code reviews.

  • Learn and follow Insulet design assurance SOPs

  • Provide timely support to team customers, internal and external

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

  • 12+ years of hands-on software development experience.

  • 6+ years of experience Architecture/Designing/Implementing Android applications

  • Solid understanding of design patterns (MVP, MVVM) and Android architecture components

  • Deep experience w/various technologies: Java, Kotlin, Kotlin coroutines, Realm, RxJava, Android Studio, REST, JSON, Git

  • Aware of latest trends and updates on new upcoming technology advancements

  • Excellent verbal and written communications

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Experience working in an Agile SDLC

  • Networking using retrofit, okhttp or other networking libraries

  • Dependency Injection using Dagger2 or any other DI frameworks

  • Diagramming: UML certification preferred, plus experience in Sequence and State Diagrams

  • Experience in working with back end systems and integration

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated expertise in applying FDA design control requirements (21 CFR 820.30) as applied to medical device software and medical device regulation (IEC-62304)

  • Familiarity with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) development

  • Expertise with software FMEA and risk analysis

  • Comfortable talking about technical things with business people and business things with technical people. Able to express complex concepts in plain language to reach broader audiences.

  • Ability to craft a compelling message and tailor it for a given audience. Ability to mix deep technical expertise with simple, everyday language to deliver a story that is memorable and useful.
