Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is looking for a Principal Dynamics Engineer at the Manned Aircraft Design Center of Excellent (COE). The preferred candidate will have a strong foundation in structural dynamic analysis with concentration in flow-structure coupling and aeroacoustic analysis. The applicant will be a contributing member in all matters related to vibro-acoustics, dynamic response analysis, and will help in the development of dynamic analysis tools, methods and processes.

The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing qualification test plans, attending supplier vibration tests, and documenting test results following MIL-STD-810. Knowledge of flight test instrumentation including excitation systems, accelerometers, strain gages, sample rates, anti-aliasing and telemetry data processing techniques is required. Knowledge and familiarity with post flight data processing and the resulting data products pertaining to aeroacoustics and dynamics is also required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering/Aerospace Engineering with minimum of 5 years of engineering experience or MS degree in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering/Aerospace Engineering with minimum of 3 years of engineering experience

  • 3 years of experience in Structural Dynamics, Aeroacoustic and Flow Structure Interactions working on military or government projects.

  • Working knowledge of Structural Dynamics and Aeroacoustic design and test requirements including military standards and specifications.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of automated software testing methodologies and processes

  • Demonstrated ability to meet very short deadlines and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Knowledge of the following tools: MATLAB, NASTRAN, FEMAP, IADS, and FEMTOOLS.

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

As a Loads Engineer you will provide support to airframe loads to include the definition, analysis, and application of structural design criteria and resulting airframe loads for various aerospace projects. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in the day-to-day activities of assigned functional area assisting in the completion of tasks as required Participate in selected engineering design, tests, and reviews Assist in applying knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve non-routine problems. Assist in developing reports and memos Flight loads analysis including steady state maneuvers, abrupt maneuvers, gust response, control surface hinge moments, and aero-elastic effects Ground loads analysis including ground handling conditions and dynamic landing conditions Miscellaneous loads analysis including canopy, doors, pressurization, engine mount, external stores, tie-down, and aerial refueling Support flight test and ground test activities Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree in Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 5 years' of work experience OR a Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree in Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 3 years' of work experience * Experience or University coursework including aircraft statics, dynamics along with having a fundamental understanding of aircraft aerodynamics * Knowledge of MATLAB, Nastran and basic programming concepts * This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
