Primary Dental Health Aide I. Preceptee

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 25 years of age.

• High School Diploma (or GED).

• Successful completion of a Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board CHAP Certification Board approved Primary Dental Health Aide I training within 6 months of starting employment.

• Primary Dental Health Aide Certification from an appropriate credentialing agency or organization is required within 1 year of starting employment.

• CPR certification is required on or within 90 days of hire.

• Valid driver's license, adequate transportation, and eligibility to operate GSA vehicles is required.

• Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.

• Must possess reasonable ability to communicate in English.

• This is a Safety Sensitive Position as defined in the Alcohol & Drug Policy.

• This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing.

• This is a covered position which requires background check that includes fingerprinting.

• Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.

• Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.

SUMMARY

Provide clinical dental services within an individually designated scope of practice and under the direct supervision of a dentist, dental therapist or hygienist, and within the priorities of the Three Rivers Health Center (TRHC). Assist in dental outreach, prevention and education efforts at the TRHC and in the Oregon 5-county service delivery area (Coos, Curry, Douglas, Lane and Lincoln counties). Work as a member of an interdisciplinary dental treatment team.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide dental treatment and prevention services, under the direct supervision of a dentist, dental therapist or hygienist.

• Recognition of various signs of gum diseases and dental problems.

• Provide education to patients on the condition of their mouths and options for improving and maintaining their oral health.

• Organize clinical time efficiently for each patient and work cooperatively with all members of the TRHC team.

• Work with the dental team in planning, implementing and evaluating various aspects of clinical services, including dental disease prevention programs and activities.

• Provide services to all ages of patients.

• Provide outreach services to schools and communities in the 5-county service delivery area (Coos, Curry, Douglas, Lane and Lincoln counties in Oregon).

• Attend Tribal and community events to promote oral health and disease prevention.

• Maintain appearance standards as outlined in TRHC policies.

• Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.

• Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors of the TRHC Clinics.

• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

• Maintain a good attendance record.

• Other duties as directed by management.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

• Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

• May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

• Must be willing and able to work long hours, which may include evenings and weekends.

• Must be willing and able to travel both locally and within the CTCLUSI service delivery area.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

• Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.

• May be required to work in locations other than the Dental Clinic, such as in a mobile dental clinic or at an outreach work location.

• May be required to attend meetings, conferences and Tribal events, including activities such as Youth Camps.
