Summary

The Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care System is currently recruiting a Primary Care Physician to support our outpatient Emerald Clinic located at our main facility in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
Responsibilities

The Primary Care Provider serves as a practicing physician who is responsible for overall management of patients enrolled for health care services provided by the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PHVAHCS). The physician will work in a team setting with other physicians, mid-levels, registered nurses, and support staff assigned to perform duties to accomplish the treatment of our patients.
The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients.

  • Evaluate and treat acute and chronic health problems for scheduled and unscheduled patients in the clinic setting.

  • Perform histories and physical examinations.

  • Order routing laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests and provide initial interpretation of results.

  • Communicate test results with patient and family members.

  • Prescribe medications as appropriate.

  • Screen patients to determine the need for hospitalization.

  • Function as a preceptor for residents in the clinic setting.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Residency must be in Family Practice/Internal Medicine
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Explains and provides financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families. Enters payments/charges for services rendered and performs daily payment/charge reconciliation in a timely and accurate manner. Balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of the day and prepares daily bank deposit with necessary paperwork sent to centralized billing for record purposes. Confirms patient appointments for the following day as necessary and ensures patients are properly prepared for visits. Assists in responding to requests for patient medical records according to company policies and procedures, and state and federal laws. Provides information and customer service to patients and patient families. Provides information and instructions to patients regarding clinic procedures and services. Performs general office duties such as distributing mail and fax information, ordering supplies, etc. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Requires knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience and customer service skills as normally acquired over one or more years of related work experience. Requires the ability to build familiarity with medical terminology and an understanding of all common insurance and payor types. Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills, and the ability to work effectively with common office software are required. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills and communications skills, with a strong customer service orientation to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences.
