Pricing & Programs Analyst

Position Summary:

The Analyst is responsible for developing price quotations and addressing pricing issues and inquiries after carefully reviewing market conditions, production costs, competitive situations, benchmark pricing and strategic relevance of each customer. The Analyst will also work closely with other members of the Pricing and Programs Team and the Marketing and Sales departments to ensure that all customer programs are properly documented, thoroughly audited and accurately paid per the terms and conditions as stated in our customer agreements.

The Analyst will work closely with the PPM to develop and enhance all aspects of WNA's marketing programs in a matter consistent with corporate objectives and the WNA philosophy.

The Analyst will also play an integral role in the implementation and maintenance of the new deduction / contract management software and all other special projects as directed by the PPM.


Essential Functions &

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing profitability analyses, benchmark price comparisons, researching costing issues.

  • Gathering information and developing an understanding of market conditions, competitors and competitive pricing activity.

  • Preparing raw material cost analyses and market projections. Must understand raw material markets and internal cost implications (I.E. "the spread")

  • Openly communicating with Sales Directors, Sales Managers and Marketing Managers on a constant basis. Must tactfully ask probative questions to ensure all decisions are based upon accurate market intelligence.

  • Working closely with Customer Service, I.T. and various other departments, the Analyst must ensure that all pricing and program systems are accurately maintained and updated.

  • Working closely with the Programs Analyst, the Analyst will take responsibility for the documentation, verification and on-time payment of all customer programs.

  • The Analyst will be responsible for completing various special projects in support of WNA's Marketing and Sales effort.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or other business related field required.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with multiple functional areas as well as Sales Managers, Sales Directors, external customers and WNA management.

  • Must be able to, or learn to, negotiate with high-pressure individuals, ask probative informational questions and fastidiously and confidently implement pricing decisions that are in the best interests of WNA.

  • Must be a detail oriented, intent listener and fast learner.

  • Must be able calculate, understand and effectively interpret relevant financial data.

  • Must be able to critically analyze customer potential and strategic importance, production and distribution costs as well as the corporate impact of the profit/loss volume trade-off.

  • Must be highly functional in the use of Excel.

  • Must be proficient in the use of other key Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Must know, or be able to learn, how to run reports and inquiries out of the IFS and Legacy computer systems.

  • Knowledge of Access or other database management tools is a strong plus.

  • Occasional business related travel will be required.

Job Title Sr. Director, Pricing & Commercial Strategy – Waddington North American (WNA) Business Unit Reporting Manager Senior Vice President, Commercial Strategy Direct Reports 2-3 Managers (Pricing Managers) Location Chelmsford, MA Position Summary: This position is a key member of the WNA business unit leadership team and is an equal partner to the BU functional leaders. This role works cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Service, Product / Market Development, Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), Manufacturing Operations, Supply Management, and Finance teams. The Pricing & Commercial Strategy Director (Director) takes a holistic approach that accounts for external factors such as customer and competitor behavior, market/consumer trends as well as internal factors such as costs, processes, manufacturing footprint and information technology to help guide the business towards sustainable profitable growth. Pricing responsibilities will involve accountability for price setting, price execution, and managing rebate programs' settlements and processing. The Director also works with Sales in setting the appropriate channel incentives (rebate programs, marketing allowances etc.) and provides enterprise-wide visibility to pricing tradeoffs. The Director will lead and manage Pricing Managers and a team of Pricing Analysts to accomplish these objectives. Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities * Work closely with sales leadership in developing and executing pricing and commercial strategies, analyze / assess the performance of these strategies and implement corrective actions as needed. This includes advising on markets and customers we should enter, exit, or reinforce. * Partner with Product Management and New Product Development groups to launch the right products with the right channel/customer incentive and pricing. * Evaluate Customer / Bundle Profitability. * Evaluate and maintain market price integrity while understanding the competitive environment. * Manage and / or participate in larger scale analytical projects associated with product line performance. * Set the pricing extended to customers through spot orders, Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Information (RFI) and bids. The function manages, processes and controls all customer bids to include pricing, terms and rebate programs. * Lead RFP / Bids including internet auctions and Request for Information (RFI) for major retail, distributor, food service, club stores, commercial and inter-company customers. This includes securing quotes from other Novolex business units, as needed. * Maintain Pricing Models that include all cost factors; annually update model with new budget numbers and adjust as directed by Finance when inconsistencies are identified. * Have a thorough knowledge of the product line, manufacturing capabilities, and the ERP system. * Work with Supply Management on understanding raw material market drivers and changes in costs; promptly determine impact of raw material cost increases and take action to mitigate them; provide feedback to Supply Management on data and intelligence gathered from sales and customers. * Track price increase execution and measure effectiveness of the same. * Track and evaluate quote activity, quote turnaround times, and win / loss analytics; provide periodic feedback on these metrics to appropriate groups; ensure accurate and timely quotes are provided to customers. * Track and initiate pricing contract renewals. * Design and implement business processes to control customer rebate programs, Proof of Delivery (aka POD or deviated pricing programs), marketing allowances and other sales deductions to include accurate and timely processing customer rebate program settlement and payments. * Work closely with the legal department to build customer contracts with relevant commercial data –language & schedule regarding price escalation / de-escalation, inventory terms, most favored price terms, "meet or release" price clauses, and other relevant terms. * Monitor customer freight / fuel expenses and revise pricing when necessary. * Key contributor to the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) budgeting process. Candidate Requirements – Education & Experience * Four-year college degree in Engineering, Technology, Business, or Finance * MBA preferred * 5 plus years of experience in an analytical and strategic role (Pricing, Business Analysis, Strategic Marketing, Business Development). * 5 – 10 years of management experience building and leading a high functioning team. * Exceptional financial analytical skills and experience building financial profit/cost models. * Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. * Experience working with integrated ERP systems. * Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, or in sales, customer service, product management or marketing would be a strong plus.
