U-Haul is hiring for skilled and experienced Preventative Maintenance Technicians to join our team!

Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to perform less complex repair and preventive maintenance required for U-Haul trucks. Use established repair shop guidelines and preventive maintenance production checklists to insure that inspections are performed in exact order.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a good driving record to operate commercial motor vehicles

  • Adhere to all local state and federal vehicular regulations while driving

Education/Training:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Environment:

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts or machines, fumes or irritant chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves or shields.

Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs assisted or unassisted.

VIEW JOBS 12/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-11T00:00 SUMMARY Repairs and maintains diesel and gas trucks, trailers and lift trucks by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Reads job orders and observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures. * Assign jobs on a rotating basis to support Self Directed Work Teams. * Each job assigned should be handled from beginning to end. * Facilitate incoming issues on a monthly rotating basis, spokesperson to represent the group at any meetings during the Group Leader's absence. * Responsible for Red Tag list, communication between technicians, PM scheduling, and on call 24/7 to ensure all jobs are completed and over the road breakdown repairs are facilitated. * Repairs or replaces all parts of brake systems and wheel ends. * Performs diagnostic procedures and repairs on vehicle electronics, computer and electrical systems. * Performs diagnostic procedures and repairs on vehicle air conditioning system. * Performs all periodic maintenance required for each unit. * Performs annual DOT inspections, including identifying worn or broken parts that may affect safety and road worthiness of the vehicle. * Contacts outside repair and maintenance professionals for assistance with repairs and diagnostics. * Receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. * Perform annual DOT inspections. * Diagnose and repair electrical and lighting systems in tractors and trailers. * Understands how air brake system works and be able to diagnose problems. * Perform complete trailer brake system overhaul, perform complete tractor brake overhaul. * Repair external engine components. * Advanced knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair heating and cooling systems in the vehicles in a timely manner. * Perform chassis/suspension/driveline maintenance and repairs. * Communicate with drivers regarding "Vehicle Condition Reports" and make appropriate repairs * Diagnose mechanical failures * Tires/Wheel end diagnostics and repairs * Wheel alignment * Continually upgrading tools SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * Minimum 5 years automotive maintenance experience for entry-level technicians * Minimum 5 years of truck and trailer repair experience * Broad knowledge of trucks and trailers * General welding skills preferred * Lift truck diagnostic and repair skills preferred * Basic computer skills as demonstrated by knowledge of and ability to use MS Excel and word processing applications preferred LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS No special skills required MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Basic math skills REASONING ABILITY Ability to diagnose maintenance problems CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS * DOT-approved brake inspector * Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred * DOT medical card * A valid driver's license is required with minimal violations as required by PGT drivers policies and be able to at least pull trucks in/out of shop safely. PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
