Description

New Horizons is the largest mental health and addiction recovery provider on the Treasure Coast (and beyond), serving 15,000 children and adults annually through inpatient crisis services, 24-hour help line and mobile response team, and outpatient programs conveniently located across Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. In addition, New Horizons assists 22,000 students in area schools, and we work closely with the courts, law enforcement, jails, and hospitals to help improve the health of individuals and the quality of life in our community.

We are seeking a caring and compassionate Prevention Specialist , who will provide problem identification, prevention services and/or referral services for youth that have used tobacco, alcohol or illicit drugs, in assigned school locations. Prevention services will be provided in the classroom, individually, in groups and in community presentations.

As a Prevention Specialist your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide individual and multi-person substance abuse prevention services

  • Maintains accurate and current case records

  • Prepare monthly and weekly reports as required by agency

  • Performs other duties as requested

Requirements

New Horizons will need you to have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university with a major in counseling, social work, psychology, criminal justice, nursing, rehabilitation, special education, health education, or a related human services field.

  • Experience with children facing substance abuse and/or mental health issues preferred.

  • OR

  • Possess and maintain a certification from the Florida Certification Board and have 5 years of experience with children facing substance abuse and/or mental health issues. Written acceptance for Certification in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree must be obtained from the school administration and kept in personnel file.

  • Must be able to apply therapeutic effective aggression management techniques without limitations.
