Summary of Job Duties:

The Prevention Education & Training Specialist will provide assistance and oversight of education & training to related service providers and community-based organizations in support of the Prevention Education & Training Coordinator. This position will work closely with the Prevention Education and Training Coordinator to ensure that contract deliverables are met. The Prevention Education and Training Specialist is directly responsible to the Prevention Education and Training Coordinator. This position will ensure that programming and newly developed trainings and interventions are in line with current evidence-based practice. The position will assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmatic activities, conferences, and trainings. This position is grant-funded and renewed annually. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Obtain Bachelor's degree within one (1) to three (3) months of hire;

  • Have some relevant experience and/or classroom education in social work, addiction studies, public health or health education, administration, policy/planning, or community/organizational psychology or related field.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's Degree;

  • Two (2) years of experience with education and training activities

  • Experience in community health, public health, working with coalitions, training, media campaigns, etc.; or any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordination and Communication

  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of training and conferences;

  • Assist with the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of Peer related training and curricula;

  • Facilitate communication and coordination between providers and MidSOUTH;

  • Maintain open, effective communication with grantor and stakeholders;

  • Support grant missions, goals, and principles;

  • Assist in the creation of public information campaign, if required by the funder.

Training and Technical Assistance

  • Assist with planning and implementation of the MidSOUTH Summer Conference;

  • Assist with ensuring that all materials needed for training and/or conferences are at the training venue and/or supplied virtually;

  • Assist with venue location, processing of participant training information, and training certifications across Prevention Education and Training programs;

  • Help facilitate training and coaching events across Prevention Education and Training programs;

  • Facilitate training and workgroups as needed;

  • Assist in the development of toolkits and other educational materials;

  • Actively participate in MidSOUTH team projects as needed.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Assist with data collection related to project activities as required;

  • Assist in program documentation, evaluation, and reporting requirements;

  • Assist with management of paperwork and evaluations for conferences and training;

  • Assist with compiling and completing monthly reports across programs;

  • Conduct ongoing research to stay current on topics related to grant activities and to keep curricula updated.

Finance and Budgeting

  • Assist with the meeting contract deliverables within the provided budgets while ensuring contract deliverables are being met;

  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Substance Abuse Prevention/Recovery;

  • Possess an understanding of adult learning principles and theories;

  • Knowledge of public relations or marketing skills;

  • Knowledge of project management;

  • Possess excellent writing, interpersonal and mediating skills;

  • Ability to meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks;

  • Possess strong project management skills;

  • Ability to make objective and ethical decisions in a multi-cultural climate;

  • Ability to manage and impart information to a wide range of stakeholders;

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office suite;

  • Ability to travel in and out of state and overnight;

  • Possess a valid driver's license.

This position weighs heavily when determining the advancement of craft personnel. <br><br> This specific position will support Distribution Line, utility automation and safety mandated training as well as other training as assigned by Supervisor of Utility Learning and Development.</p><p>JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES</p><ul><li><p>Conduct safety and technical skills training programs to ensure employees have the right knowledge of safety, policies and procedures, as well as the technical skills required to perform effectively in their jobs.</p></li><li><p>Mitigate all risk associated with delivery of technical skills training and report safety violations.</p></li><li><p>Evaluate employee and classification to determine the training curriculum needed for safe, compliant, and error free performance of their respective position. Support design and development and maintenance of new and existing safety, skills and technical training materials.</p></li><li><p>Facilitate delivery of technical skills instruction for craft workers within the Distribution organization. The incumbent must be versed in various delivery formats including distance learning and knowledgeable of the subject matter in both theory and practical application.</p></li><li><p>Must be able to effectively observe and evaluate performance of training participants.
