About Our Job
The Community Corrections Division-Pretrial Services & Electronic Monitoring Program is currently accepting applications for Pretrial Internships for the summer of 2024. The Community Corrections Division (CCD) is an agency within the Department of Safety. The agency administers alternative to incarceration programs including pretrial services, in home detention and residential halfway house oversite. The CCD has a diverse and dedicated staff committed to enhancing public safety and working with the community and other criminal justice agencies.
These part-time internship hours are flexible between 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. It is ideal for the Intern to commit to 16-20 hours per week for a semester or a year. The location for this internship is at the Denver Pretrial Services Office located at 303 W. Colfax in Denver.
The Intern will assist and work alongside Pretrial Officers and Supervisors. The intern will earn experience in all aspects of pretrial supervision including case management, court case processing, and court reporting. The intern will be exposed to defendant assessment and bonding decisions, client meetings, court appearance, and electronic monitoring of defendants. The internship has the potential to be tailored to the interests and strengths of the intern that is selected for the position. This is an unpaid academic internship.
As an Intern you will have the opportunity to participate in:
Managing a case load of clients under pretrial supervision by maintaining contact to ensure court requirements are met, such as attending all court appearances and there are no new criminal violations.
Determining action(s) to be taken for client failure to meet pretrial requirements and notifying superiors and the Court.
Preparing pretrial reports which include recommendations presented to the court.

Below are the minimum requirements:
You must be a current junior, senior in an accredited four-year college or university or Masters level program concentrating in the studies of Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or directly related field.
