Summary:In collaboration with the Board, determine the strategically desired outcomes and indicators that guide UWCF's impact in the community. Ensure that UWCF operations, resources, staff and volunteers are appropriately aligned to support the desired outcomes. * Establish and nurture relationships with community leaders, donors, agency partners and organizations of all types to ensure that UWCF understands, and listens to, community concerns and priorities. * In collaboration with the Board, develop specific strategies and programs that ensure UWCF makes a significant community impact and is able to measure and communicate that impact. * Where appropriate, ensure that UWCF serves as a resource for the broad tri-county community in defining community needs, solutions and desired outcomes, even when such needs are beyond the scope of UWCF.Resource Development* Provide the leadership, direction, strategies and programs that raise the funds and other resources needed by UWCF to attain its desired outcomes and to support its strategies. * Effectively engage the Board to ensure that annual fundraising goals are realistically and properly set. Then engage the Board, volunteers of all types, employers, individual donors and staff to ensure that fund raising goals are met or exceeded every year. * Diversify the revenue base currently supporting UWCF. More specifically, per the strategic plan, engage younger givers, expand geographic focus, broaden the employer base and develop alternatives to employer-based giving campaigns.Strategic Management* In collaboration with the Board of Directors, drive the development of the organization's strategy. Ensure that the Board is provided with all information needed to make informed strategic decisions and to establish needed policies for the organization. * Be an effective resource to the Board of Directors regarding development of UWCF's strategies and in collaboration with the Board Chair ensure that the Board is fully engaged in its strategic responsibilities. * Be a champion of the agreed-upon strategies. Ensure that all strategies are implemented both as instructed and intended by the Board. Provide feedback to the Board on the effectiveness of programs and strategies. * Communicate UWCF's strategic direction and supporting programs to staff, volunteers, donors, agency partners, employers, governments and other key community stake-holders. Maintain dialogue with those parties to ensure their input into future strategic planning work.Organization Leadership* Build, motivate and lead a responsive, professional, highly capable management team and staff to ensure that UWCF meets its strategic goals and that its programs function effectively. * Effectively harness, lead and motivate the volunteers employed by UWCF in the operation of its programs. Educate the volunteers on their duties and responsibilities, ensuring effective cooperation with staff. * Develop and implement the programs needed to attain UWCF's strategic objectives and ensure that those programs have needed resources, staff and volunteer support. * Ensure unfailing integrity and legal compliance in every aspect of UWCF's operations and that UWCF's goals regarding inclusiveness and diversity are met. Ensure that UWCF operates at all times within the constraints, policies and guidelines established by the Board and required by the Bylaws and United Way Worldwide.Supervisory Responsibilities* Directly supervises the following and performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws* Executive Assistant * Chief Financial Officer * Chief Impact Officer* V.P. Marketing and Communications * Director of Resource Development * Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Qualification/
To provide leadership in guiding the organizational objectives and policies as set by the Board of Directors. Lead and direct all of UWCF's operations, within the parameters established by its Mission, Board of Directors and Bylaws, so as to attain the goals and outcomes set out in UWCF's Strategic Plan.Serve as "the voice" and "the ears" of UWCF in our tri-county community, ensuring that UWCF's strategies and operations are aligned with, and effectively support, the needs of our community's citizens, donors, employers, agencies, governments and other partners.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. The following requirements are not all-inclusive but they do encompass the essential elements for consideration for the position of President/CEO of UWCF.* A four-year undergraduate degree is the minimum requirement. * Substantial experience working in the non-profit sector, at a senior management level. Consideration will be given to candidates whose not-for-profit experience includes top-management volunteer positions such as Board Chair or Campaign Chair of a substantial not-for-profit group, provided that such candidates also have other successful top management experience as well.* A demonstrated history of substantial accomplishment during the course of the candidate's career. * Superior strategic management skills and experience * Superior ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in small groups and large, publicly and privately. * Demonstrated results in building, motivating and leading organizations. Special consideration will be given to candidates who also demonstrate successful results in leading diverse groups of volunteers. * Demonstrated results in fund-raising and donor development and relations. * Demonstrated ability to effectively relate to and gain support from diverse groups and interests in the community, particularly donors and employers.* A substantial history of broad community service and involvement, either as a volunteer, employee or both. * Solid intellectual capacity and discipline combined with an outward-looking and flexible frame of mind: must be able to adapt rapidly to change and to multiple and sometimes conflicting demands from the community. * Ideally, have significant work experience in one or more of UWCF's three (3) program focus areas: Education, Income or Health.Desirable Personal and Behavioral Traits: The leadership of UWCF believes that its next President/CEO is more likely to be successful if that person can demonstrate many, if not all, of the following personal and behavioral traits:* Mission-Focused: lives and works for UCWF's mission and role in the community. Commits to our tri-county community, is engaged in it, and loves it.Physical Demands:* Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature. Includes sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time with the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. * Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.Travel Demands: Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel to worksites and community based meetings and events.Disaster Response: Every United Way of Central Florida employee is a disaster response worker and is expected to work any time when the Polk County Emergency Support Function (ESF) is activated. It is expected that all employees will work in their disaster response roles as assigned after they have assessed the welfare of their families and the safety of their own surroundings.*
