Position Summary

Thousands of Minnesota kids need help getting ready for Kindergarten and you can make all the difference. Offer your time, talent, and experience as a member of our Educator Corps and be more for your students.

As an Educator Corps member, you'll spend your days helping children ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, sing and play in order to develop early literacy and math skills and get ready for Kindergarten. You will take what you already do in your classroom, and combine it with the extra data, interventions, training, and coaching in Reading Corps. This is a great opportunity for you to learn right along with your students!

Educator Corps members serve in an hours position that matches their current school schedule. We are currently recruiting for the 2021-22 school year with opportunities beginning in August 2021. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Minnesota Reading Corps.

Although the education award is modest, the rewards are great! You'll join an amazing group of more than 100 Minnesota educators, determined to help students be more.

What to Expect

  • Be a change maker by implementing proven literacy and math strategies in your classroom. Be committed to helping students build their skills and confidence.

    Be ready to grow by participating in coaching sessions two times per month to review child progress, plan, problem solve, and set goals. Be impactful by participating in training and ongoing professional development throughout your term of service. Be the motivation and represent Reading Corps at school-sponsored activities to help build awareness of Reading Corps and early literacy. Be an ambassador of the program by sharing your experience with the wider community.

  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Professional Coaching & Development Free Training (fulfills Minnesota career lattice requirements) *The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild or foster child.

What it Takes

To participate in Educator Corps, you need to be a classroom teacher, paraprofessional or aide working with students ages 3-5. In addition, you'll need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service: Receive a recommendation from your principal, school administrator or internal coach Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) Can speak, read and write English fluently 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States

  • Agree to and successfully complete a background check *Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.

With great training and onsite coaching, we'll prepare you to work one-on-one or in small groups to help kids develop their reading skills and confidence! Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2021-22 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2021, October 2021 or January 2022. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You'll join an amazing group of 1,500 tutors, determined to help students be more. What to Expect * Be a change maker by providing one-on-one or small group reading help during school hours. * Be committed to helping students build their skills and confidence. * Be ready to grow by participating in on-site coaching sessions two times per month to review student progress and get feedback. * Be impactful by participating in training and ongoing professional development. * Be the motivation by representing Reading Corps at school-sponsored activities to help build awareness of Reading Corps and early literacy. * Be an ambassador of the program by sharing your experience with the wider community. Perks Package Give your time as a tutor and you'll receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week. Perks at 35 hours a week: A stipend of $750 paid every 2 weeks * Up to $4,441 for tuition or student loans* * Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment * Individual health insurance - Monthly premium 100% covered * Child care assistance - Based on family size and income Perks at 25 hours a week: * A stipend of $535 paid every 2 weeks * Up to $3,172 for tuition or student loans* * Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Perks at 18 hours a week: * A stipend of $410 paid every 2 weeks * Up to $2,417 for tuition or student loans* * Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment * The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans.
