Job Description / Essential Elements: Print

  • POSITION SUMMARY* : Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs for children in a specific classroom, in accordance to the school's curriculum, procedures and initiatives, providing a learning environment that is safe, comfortable and healthy, in order to enhance children growth and development.

  • Qualifications*

A fully qualified teacher shall have 12 post-secondary semester units in early childhood education and 3 additional units in Infant/Toddler care from an accredited college and six months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or similar program. The units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development;child, family and community; and program/curriculum. A teacher shall complete 15 hours of health and safety training, if necessary, pursuant to Health and Safety code, Section 1596.866.All personnel shall be in good health and physically and mentally capable of performing assigned tasks. A health screening, including a tuberculosis test is required.Personnel shall provide for the care and safety of children without physical or verbal abuse, exploitation or prejudice.Prior to employment, residence or initial presence in the child care facility, all individuals subject to a criminal record review shall obtain a Department of Justice clearance, or request a transfer of a current clearance to be associated with the facility.A Child Abuse Central Index review shall be conducted on the applicant and all individuals subject to a criminal record review prior to licensure, employment or initial presence in the facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Education and Curriculum

  • Responsible for creating an age appropriate learning environment.

  • Prepares weekly lesson plans and successfully implements curriculum in accordance with directives and implementation guidelines.

  • Treats all children with respect and dignity, providing adequate, equitable time and effort to each child.

  • Teaches in a manner that helps children learn creatively and in accordance with the values, philosophy and goals of the school.

  • Interacts with children while supervising. Interactions include, but are not limited to, playing with the children at their physical level, problem solving, communication that engages children and encourages them to explore further development.

  • Recognizes and addresses children's diverse learning styles, as well as social, emotional, developmental and educational needs.

  • Relates to the needs of each child fro a cultural perspective and helps children appreciate classroom and school diversity.

  • Plans activities encouraging each child's emotional, social and physical growth.

  • Emphasizes children's achievements and creates an environment that nurtures and promotes the whole child.

  • Encourages a "can do" attitude in children by maintaining a positive attitude at all times.

  • Adheres to school policies and school playground safety policies.

  • Maintains all licensing requirements within the classroom and playground.

  • Documents and reports all accidents and incidents.

  • Plans, organizes and conducts parent-teacher conferences.

  • Prepares reports as needed.

  • Ensures all supplies and equipment are in good repair

  • Maintains health and safety standards as mandated by DSS, including but not limited to medication, medicine logs, first aid, emergency supply kits, playground inspections and accident/incident log.

  • Ensures a classroom environment that is kept safe, organized, and meeting f the standards set forth by the school.

  • Perform all tasks assigned by management.

  • Complies with all state and federal laws, and the school's policies and procedures.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in the planning, implementation and operation of successful creative educational experiences

  • Attends all meetings, workshops, training and webinars.

  • Organizes and supervises all classroom parties.

  • Supervises students on playground, in the classroom, lunch area, or any other area where children are present.

  • Reports all maintenance needs to the Director.

  • Follow all other duties assigned by management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • 12 units in Early Childhood Education and one year teaching experience or programmatic experience in the group care of children

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Fire and Health regulations.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL INTERACTIONS :

  • This position requires interacting internally with students, other staff, Directors and general school staff at different levels within the school.

  • This position requires interacting externally with parents and students, as well as with prospective students and their family.

Required experience:

  • teaching (1 yr required as well as 12 units in Early Childhood Education): 1 year
