Job Purpose: To provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for three and four year old students in Salina Public Schools preschool classrooms.
Reports To: Building Principal and collaborates with the Coordinator of Special Education & Preschool Services
Supervises: Assigned students and Early Education Classroom Engagement Support Staff
Evaluation: Per the Salina Public Schools Negotiated Agreement
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education with current Kansas Teaching License in Early Childhood. ECSE or ECU preferred. Other related licenses, certifications and endorsements will be considered.
Ability to provide a supportive and positive classroom climate that enables each student to develop the skills and knowledge in preparation for kindergarten.
Demonstrate understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and research related to best practices for early childhood programs.
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
Be reliable and demonstrate good character and initiative.
Essential Functions:
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
Assesses student progress, goals, etc. for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
Assists classroom support staff for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
Directs classroom support staff, student workers, volunteers, etc. for the purpose of maximizing their efficiency and meeting work requirements.
Instructs students in areas of language and literature; science; math; nutrition; self care; social, emotional, motor and language skills for the purpose of optimizing development of each child.
Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students, and to extend learning in environments outside of the classroom.
Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. lesson plans, attendance, assessment, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
Collaborates with parents through home visits and parent-teacher conferences for the purpose of improving student performance.
Responsible for maintaining compliance with At-Risk Preschool-Age Assurances, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and Special Education requirements.
Salary: Certified Salary Schedule placement based on education and experience.
