The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.

This is a temporary position beginning 6/20/24 and ending 7/23/24.
We are seeking highly qualified teachers, bilingual, and/or multi-cultural teachers.
Applicants must be able to be available throughout the duration of the assignment.
Total hours will not exceed 200 hours.
Some evening work is required.

Reports to: Migrant Program Manager

Position Purpose: Provide direct instruction to preschool children in Migrant Summer Program

Nature & Scope: This position is subject to Board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations and applicable State and Federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

Position Summary: Ensures, supports, and promotes each child's learning, well-being, and development in cooperation with their parents and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with the Migrant Education Preschool Program standards. Based on Migrant Program goals, classroom observations and individual child assessments, the teacher plans a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum which meets the needs of all children and their families.

Essential Job Functions:
Establishes a well-managed, child oriented learning curriculum and environment that promotes and supports the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of children and ensures individualization, building concepts, literacy enrichment, and language development.
Promotes parent involvement by planning and scheduling home visits, maintaining an open and cooperative relationship with each child's family, sharing information with parents about their child's experience, and ensuring that information and services are provided to parents in their primary language.
Develops a strong working relationship with classroom staff and volunteers by creating classroom work assignments, participating in regular classroom meetings, and providing feedback and support to classroom team members. Works to resolve issues and problems among co-workers cooperatively and respectfully.
Develops appropriate systems to regularly monitor educational progress and maintains/completes records and reports as required by program procedures.
Other Job Functions:
Participates in weekly staff meetings.
Attends evening family events.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a school environment. May work with high stress students, family or personnel situations. Involves sitting, walking and attendance at evening events. Requires the use of computers, office equipment and driving personal vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrates understanding of the philosophy and current best practices of early childhood education.
Develops curriculum that builds on observations of children and utilizes a variety of approaches to learning.
Understanding of typical and atypical child development from birth through five years of age.
Ability to develop the classroom community by providing a well-designed, safe environment that engages children in activities.
Ability to relate positively to migrant children and adults.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Education and Experience:
AA/AS degree or higher in early childhood education; OR
AA/AS degree in child development, human development, education, elementary education, child and family studies, that includes coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education AND 6 months actual work experience working with preschool age children; OR
AA/BS degree or higher in any field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education AND 6 months actual work experience working with preschool age children
