DESCRIPTION: Supervise and assist with instruction for preschool age children in the integrated preschool classrooms and in the Intensive Flex preschool classrooms who have significant support needs and complex communication needs. All activities are under the supervision of certified teachers. Maintain cleanliness and safety of the classroom, prepare instructional materials, prepare and provide snacks, change diapers and clothes, etc.

SALARY: Classified Grade F, $13.71-15.39 (based on previous experience.) 29 hours per week, 7.25 hours per day, on the 9-month/4-day work week schedule. Not eligible for benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise children and activities in a classroom environment. Ensure safety and security of children. Provide direct instruction and/or academic support and supervision for general education students and students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) while in the preschool classroom.

  • Prepare instructional materials for small and large group daily activities. Prepare nutritional snacks. Modify materials and assist with lesson plans for inclusion of special education students in general education classroom participation. Provide in-class support for students. Adapt and assist students with lesson modifications as needed / directed.

  • Assist general education students and students with special needs including toileting, diapering, self care (e.g., brushing teeth, washing face and hands, changing clothes, etc.), eating and tube feeding, transportation, communication.

  • Assist students with physical needs, including positioning and transitioning students using specialized adaptive equipment.

  • Assist in monitoring student's progress, and documenting student activities and abilities.

  • Monitor and implement behavior support plans throughout the school including monitoring on the playground to ensure safety and security of students.

  • Supervise children entering and exiting the bus and during recess.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Ability to demonstrate independence and initiative in implementing instructional programs at a preschool level.

  • Ability to be flexible and work as a team member with preschool teachers and group leader.

  • Ability to demonstrate caring and nurturing for young children, yet able to be consistent in implementing established routine.

  • Physical stamina and ability to be able to lift children and conduct activities on the floor and at the children's level.

  • Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Up to 2 years experience caring for and supervising children.

  • Knowledge and experience with young children 3-5 years of age with a variety of developmental levels.

The position will also be used to support ELL learners. Collect data and maintain student records, supervise students during, before, and after school for safety; and assist with transportation. May occasionally be asked to support students with severe needs, including medical/life skills assistance as needed and directed. SALARY: Classified Grade E, $13.08 - $14.70 per hour to start, depending on recent relevant experience. 8 hours per day on 4-day / 9-month work schedule. Position is eligible for benefits. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide direct instruction and/or academic support and supervision for students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) while in general education and special education classrooms. * Modify academic materials under direction from the general and/or Special Education teachers and assist with the delivery of instruction. * Identify and facilitate peer relationships and natural supports (assessments). * Follow through with prescribed behavior intervention plans throughout the school and community and during extra-curricular activities, including monitoring of the playground, or other school areas to ensure safety and security of students. * Maintain required forms and records as requested by the Special Education Teacher and/or Related Services Providers. * De-escalate students as needed using approved CPI measures, as well as following the prescribed Behavior Intervention Plan. * Consult with general education teachers regarding best practice in special education. * Assist students on occasion, as directed by Special Education Teacher, with special needs including, toileting, eating, positioning and alternative communication. * Communicate observations, concerns, activities, and progress with the Special Education Teacher and other Therapist or Specialists. * Assist both Special Education and General Education teachers with minor clerical duties as needed. * Attend trainings as required by Building Principal, Special Education Teacher and/or Director of Special Education. * Attend student staffings as requested by Special Education Teacher and/or Related Services Providers. * Meet with small groups of students to communicate information regarding scheduling or classroom needs. QUALIFICATIONS: * High School diploma or equivalent. * Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Plans, IEPs, staff and student handbooks. * Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences. * Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from general or special education teachers and related services providers. * Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. * Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred. * Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English. * CPR and First Aid certification preferred, but not required for this position. * Experience working with students with disabilities preferred but not required. * Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. * Must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical. * Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
