Job Description

City View Charter School is starting our Preschool, Cub Crew, in the fall of the 2024-2025 school year. The program would serve children ages 3-5, following our school calendar.

The Lead Preschool Teacher creates and sustains a classroom environment and learning experiences that are consistent with, and foster the achievement of the goals City View's Cub Crew for each child. Working collaboratively with the Preschool Director, the Lead teacher would be responsible for running the classroom, planning lessons and activities, supervising the Assistant Teacher as well as ensuring a safe learning environment for all students.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.

  • Preference for candidates who hold a current Oregon Teaching License with ECE, or Multiple Subjects authorization.

  • Experience teaching in a public or private Pre-K to Grade 2 classroom. Two or more years' experience is preferred.

  • Enrollment in the Criminal Background Registry of the Office of Child Care of the State of Oregon.

  • Lead Teachers are required to complete the following certifications within the first 30 days of employment:

  • CPR/First Aid, Pediatric

  • Food Handling Certificate

  • Child Abuse Awareness Training

  • TSPC Charter School Registry

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to learning and teaching through the EL Education instructional model

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills

  • Maintain integrity of confidential information of students and staff

  • Ability to collaborate productively with team members

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with project-based learning

  • Experience with EL Education

  • 1-3 years of experience of classroom teaching

Responsibilities of Preschool Lead Teacher include:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate learning experiences in a constructivist environment using a project-based educational approach that models best practices.

  • Encourage collaboration and reciprocity among our community of learners of all ages.

  • Develop regular schedules and procedures that support students' needs and the overall goals of the City View preschool.

  • Develop, implement, and share quality lesson plans designed to meet curricular goals and the developmental needs of each child.

  • Support the development of language and literacy in all learners.

  • Document children's work throughout the learning process through photography, regular blog entries, on-going projects etc.

  • Engage in ongoing assessment of students through observation and authentic demonstration of skills and knowledge. Maintain portfolios of student work samples, and compose detailed written Developmental Records on every student.

  • Maintain and nurture positive and effective relationships with parents/families of students.

  • Contribute to City View outreach events including parent education, professional development workshops, and early childhood community activities.

  • Supervise and guide assistant teachers, student teachers, and volunteers.

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as needed.

  • Ensure safe care of all children at all times through continual supervision.

  • Potentially other duties as assigned by the Preschool Director

School Culture:

  • Be able to build a classroom community that effectively communicates the HoWLs (Habits of Work and Learning) and EL design principles in order to maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment.

  • Encourage staff and students to have developmentally appropriate discussions on diversity and equity.

  • Implement school-wide student behavior policies by collaborating with both the behavior team and administrators to uphold the policies, document any infractions properly, creating behavior plans when necessary and knowing the correct support channels within the staff.

Professionalism and Responsibilities:

  • Attend and lead in preschool staff meetings, student meetings, and professional development with punctuality, preparedness, and engagement.

  • Collaborate with school wide teams to create plans to best serve students, better instructional practices, and share successes.

  • Connect and incorporate families into the classroom. Provide consistent communication throughout the school year via face-to-face, email or online applications, or, online meetings. Encourage and provide opportunities for in person family involvement such as volunteering.

Other Professional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, and school operations

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance

  • Follow all City View protocols for reporting absences

  • Follow all City View policies and work procedures

  • Participate in required meetings and trainings related to the position

  • Demonstrate professionalism when working and communicating verbally and nonverbally with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds

  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment

Working Conditions:

  • Collaborate regularly with administrators, behavior team, and other members of the preschool team

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

  • Work with frequent interruptions

  • Follow City View policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by proper authority

  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students and staff

Compensation Package

  • This position would be full-time for an average of 40 hours per week. The hours would be 8am - 4pm, M-F on a 11 month calendar. The pay scale for this position would be $38,000 - $72,309 depending on educational experience.

  • Offering full benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance and paid long term/short-term disability insurance. 10 Days Paid Time Off (PTO) and 8 paid holidays.

  • Required participation in Oregon PERS.
