We seek a highly motivated and experienced Kitchen Staff Worker to prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children in a licensed child care facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy kitchen environment while adhering to all regulatory agency guidelines and regulations.

The REACH Cook is responsible to plan and prepare nutritious meals that meet USDA and CACFP requirements and promote healthy eating behaviors to children from ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows CACFP approved recipes to cook lunch on a daily basis.

  • Prepares lunch, afternoon snack, and breakfast.

  • Prepares/edits menu monthly (on a 4 week rotation).

  • Completes annual CACFP training.

  • Uses the Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs provided by the USDA when creating new recipes in order to ensure that the proper component(s) is provided.

  • Maintains a sanitary kitchen. Follows cleaning schedule daily/weekly/monthly.

  • Completes a weekly food-shopping trip while sticking to a given budget.

  • Submits food receipts on a weekly basis for audit.

  • Maintains food service records.

  • Keep accurate records including inventory and production records.

  • Maintains up to date records of food allergies and prevents contamination.

  • Properly store food and non-food supplies upon delivery.

  • Keep all food items stored properly and at the appropriate temperature.

  • Date all food items.

  • Performs other job-related responsibilities, as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with menu planning in accordance to the guidelines required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

  • Must have a current food handler's license or ability to acquire one.

  • Must have a current first aid/CPR card or ability to acquire one.

  • Must have a valid driver's license, car insurance, and a reliable vehicle for weekly food shopping.

  • Must complete a criminal background check.

  • Required schedule of Monday- Friday 8:00- 3:00/4:00

  • Reliable and dependable.

  • Knowledge of health and sanitation requirements; be prepared for unexpected inspections.

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus professional experience in food service and/or nutrition.

  • Preferred: professional experience in food service and/or nutrition or Childcare Kitchen experience

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.

  • Ability to reach over head.

  • Good personal hygiene (clean clothes, hair, hands, nails, etc.).

  • Ability to bend down.

  • Finger dexterity.

  • Ability to read and understand all documents.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
