Preschool Instructor

Mt. Vernon Early Learning Academy Mini-Marauder Preschool is seeking a preschool instructor who displays the natural ability to foster positive learning relationships with preschoolers and be a team player working in a collaborative environment with the goal to teach students to become independent lifelong learners.

The instructor must plan, organize, and implement an appropriate educational program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential. This person is responsible for supervising and managing a 3s or 4s classroom.

Essential Functions of the Job: (may include but are not limited to the following)

● Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active, age-appropriate learning

● Instruct and monitor students in the use of hands-on, language-rich learning materials

● Implement evidence-based practices as outlined by The Indiana Early Learning Foundations and Paths to Quality

● Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction

● Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in a calm, respectful manner

● Observe and evaluate student's performance and development, including conducting beginning-, middle-, and end-of-year assessments

● Provide appropriate feedback on performance

● Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies

● Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development

● Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations

● Prepare required reports on students and activities

● Prepare for and attend all meetings - department, school, district, and family meetings

● Communicate necessary information regularly to students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs

● Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities

● Prepare the classroom daily for class activities

● Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities

● Help to create and maintain a classroom culture of health and safety, both physically and emotionally

Other Functions of the Job: (include but are not limited to the following)

● Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds

● Establish positive relationships with students and families, promoting feelings of trust and security

● Encourage family and community involvement, obtain information for families when requested, and promptly return emails and phone calls

● Provide information to support learning at home

● Participate in Special Education Case Conferences as the General Education Representative

● Participate in orientation and professional development activities

● Provide support for students during meals (breakfast and lunch) and snacks

● Maintain a clean environment, including simple daily housekeeping duties in the classroom

● Provide support with child self-care (i.e. washing hands, toileting, may be required to change diapers)

● Collaborate with preschool team regarding daily accommodations within the general education environment

● Problem solve and actively participate in discussions to support struggling children

● Maintain confidentiality regarding all personal information related to children, families, and staff

● Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Required:

● CDA, Associate's Degree, or Bachelor's Degree in early childhood or elementary education

● Strong interest in and experience working with preschool-aged children

● Nurturing, self-motivated, even-tempered, adaptable approach

● Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others

● Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written communication

● Must have the ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis

● Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

Reports to: Preschool Coordinator

Days: 183 days

Hours: 7 am - 3 pm, 5 days per week at 8 hours per day with a 30-minute duty-free lunch
