Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: •Must meet all current California requirements for preschool teachers (including Mandated Reporter Certification) •Must have strong verbal and written communication skills •Must be able to multi-task and interact well with others •Must have current pediatric first aid and CPR certification •Must successfully pass background check/fingerprinting in accordance with California State regulation. •Must be able to lift 30 pounds *Must be available to maintain a consistent and reliable attendance

An Associate Teacher assisting a fully qualified teacher in the supervision of up to 18 preschool-age children pursuant to Section 101216.3 shall meet the following requirements: (1) Completion of six postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development, or (2) Completion of at least two postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development each semester or quarter following initial employment, and (3) Continuation in the educational program each semester or quarter until six units have been completed. Associate Teacher's Position Summary: The associate teacher provides assistance and works co-operatively and collaboratively with teacher(s) in the classroom.

An associate teacher reports to the Preschool Director. This is a nonexempt hourly position. Specific responsibilities:

Classroom and learning •Supervise the classroom and playground and ensure that children are not left unattended. •Assist with the teacher(s) in preparation and cleanup of materials needed for classroom activities. •Set up learning centers. •Carry out afternoon lesson plans in small groups as requested by the Director/Afternoon Teacher. •Assist the teacher(s) in providing an integrated curriculum in accordance with the California Learning Foundation in all areas of learning. •Model and teach God's love for each child through stories, songs, activities, and grace before meals. •Assist the teacher(s) with smooth transition periods. •Communicate with children at their developmental level. •Encourage children to be independent by teaching problem solving skills. •Assist the lead teacher in the care and cleaning of the classrooms. •Clean up after snacks and lunch by wiping tables and sweeping. Health and Safety •Give full attention to the students and be responsible for the safety and well being of each child. •Know how to assess and when to exclude an ill child from the rest of the class. •Participate in the care and cleaning of classrooms including toys, furniture and equipment. •Administer first aid as needed and report incidents to the lead teacher or the director immediately. Administrative and professional •Ensure classroom supplies and materials needed are available prior to implementing activities. •Support the Little Lights philosophy and educational objectives. •Support the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragement. •Attend preschool staff meetings, fundraisers, program functions and in-service training. •Maintain and promote strict confidentiality regarding children, families and staff. •Inform the lead teacher and the director immediately of any unreasonable behavior, parent complaint, or a problem that should be handled by the director in the best interest of the program. •Arrive at work on time according to the schedule. •Work cooperatively with other staff members and the director as a team player. •Keep personal appearance neat and appropriate for a preschool work setting. •Assist in preparing and organizing special events such as open house, fundraisers, graduation, holiday programs •Other duties as assigned by the director.
