Ionia County Intermediate School District's mission is to "cooperate and provide services & leadership as a partner with its local districts, public & private agencies, other ISDs, the Department of Education, & higher education, to deliver quality teaching & learning to students & staff. The goals are to:

  • Provide students with comprehensive, multifaceted, & integrated supports that are accessible, timely, & strength-based

  • Involve families, fellow students, educators & community members as integral partners in the provision of a supportive, respectful learning environment; &

  • Integrate the human & financial resources of public & private agencies to create caring communities at each school. Full-time VISTA members will focus on early childhood education, school readiness & basic needs in Ionia & Montcalm counties. VISTA members will be trained to research, identify and write grants that support early childhood education, K-12 school readiness and educational basic needs. Examples of possible activities are:

  • Partner with agencies to build a trauma initiative team to become a trauma informed & responsive community.

  • Partner with Great Start to Quality to increase provider participation in quality rating system

  • Identify funding sources/writing grants to support the work in early childhood education, K-12 school readiness and educational basic needs

  • Coordinating fundraising events with partners

  • Collecting & sharing data on programming and its impact

  • Organizing/hosting events with partners at the ISD & other locations for administration, teachers & students centered on educational best practices. Skills needed include: strong writing ability, MS Office Suite, project planning, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, community-building, knowledge of early childhood education and training on trauma would be helpful.

VIEW JOBS 4/18/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-17T00:00 As a summer associate, the member will work to connect students to summer learning and developmental experiences that: -Address specific academic & socio-emotional needs -Build skills correlated with success in school -Meet & stimulate interests Summer associates will participate in but are not limited to the list below: -Planning & implementation of a summer coding camp for at-risk middle school students. -Planning & implementation of an overnight teen leadership training camp. -Facilitating group development & teambuilding activities. -Guiding students though collaborative hands on challenges. -Developing & supervising organized activities, both indoors & outdoors. -Creation of positive & collaborative team environments. -Guiding students through problem-solving activities. -Planning& implementing 2 service-learning projects. -Working with early childhood staff to plan and develop early childhood grant applications -Increase family knowledge and use of the childcare subsidy through tabling and presentations. -Assist in informing the community of early childhood resources at family events in the county. -Assist in increasing childcare providers' participation in the state quality rating system by providing education through presentations and handouts. -Work with staff on identifying & creating additional resources and opportunities through partnering and fund raising for fall implementation. Summer associates have the opportunity to contribute to improved educational outcomes for economically disadvantaged children with a focus on developing supports for at-risk children to achieve success in school and prevent developmental delays and reduced academic achievement in Ionia & Montcalm counties.
