Job Summary: The PREPARE + Teacher Residency Program is an effort to recruit and retain highly effective, diverse teachers who have the desire to teach elementary education (grades K-6) in schools significantly impacted by poverty in Guilford County Schools.
The TQP (Teacher Quality Partnership) federal grant was awarded by the US Department of Education to provide Teacher Assistants, first year residency-licensed teachers or (or other qualified applicants) who have earned undergraduate degrees currently employed in Guilford County Schools with the opportunity to participate in a clinical residency program leading to licensure in Elementary Education. Candidates without a degree in education, who are interested in teaching may also be considered for this opportunity.
Beginning in the fall of 2024, approximately 20 - 25 participants will be selected to join the residency cohort program which will include graduate level coursework concentrating in Literacy. Participants will complete coursework from Fall 2024 through Spring 2026.
Program highlights include peer mentoring, seminars and a full-time year long clinical residency experience with a highly qualified teacher/mentor. The PREPARE + residency program results in full licensure and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Elementary Education K-6 from High Point University. Participants will be expected to teach in Guilford County Schools for a minimum of three years in a school significantly impacted by poverty following program completion.
Grant funding will provide each participant in the residency program with monthly stipends covering tuition at each of the partnering universities and related fees for required teacher licensure exams. Teacher residents will complete graduate coursework at High Point University with additional professional development opportunities and seminars while maintaining their employment through Guilford County Schools.

Qualifications: Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's Degree. 2.7 or higher GPA preferred.
Working Conditions: Selected candidates must agree to teach or serve as a teacher assistant in a school impacted by poverty during the MAT program. Upon completion, candidates must agree to teach in an identified school.
