Required Skills

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

  • Current Texas Nursing License

  • Current BLS, ACLS and PALS

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Pre-Op/PACU

  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient

  • Understand principles of aseptic technique and their implementation

  • Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics

  • Knowledge base to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errors

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed

  • Excellent teaching skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Demonstrate strong professional and ethical behavior

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians and fellow employees. (TEAMWORK)

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Demonstrate accountability, creativity, innovation and be receptive to change

  • Possess basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology

Required Experience

  • Previous experience working in an ambulatory surgical setting preferred.

Key Functions Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. Prepares / stocks rooms and escorts patients to rooms. Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Documents in the medical record patient care entries and completed lab work. Reviews and sorts incoming lab results and forwards reports for review. Collects laboratory specimens and performs waived laboratory testing (such as finger stick glucose and EKG tests). Provides transportation of patients for discharge or transfer to other areas in the hospital. Must position, lift and move patients as needed. Cleans, stores, prepares and coordinates maintenance of medical equipment. Maintains inventories of laboratory and medical supplies. Processes all required paperwork. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure. Other duties as assigned. Education Required: High school diploma/equivalent. Experience Required: One year of medical assistant experience. Preferred Education: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
