Join the Logistics in a Contested Environment (Log CE) team to help lead and develop new capabilities to transform the Logistics Enterprise. Today's weapon systems are a complex blend of different ages, different technologies, low-tech and high-tech materials, millions of lines of software, and a variety of old and new systems gathering and storing data. The USAF must leverage and integrate data to make decisions earlier, faster, and more effective.
The Log CE team is looking for an up and coming, self-starter, motivated engineer with strong communication skills who wants to take on a challenging project with more leadership responsibilities to help the project leader shape and develop the roadmap/plan for this transformational effort needed to develop a predictive depot maintenance software prototype capability. The responsibilities will include leveraging/working across multiple technology labs identifying state-of-the art technologies such as artificial intelligence, agile software development needed to develop predictive algorithms that will be incorporated into a software prototype system that will identify what future depot maintenance tasks are required. Responsibilities include the identification and integration of all maintenance requirements, linkage to historical maintenance and supply data, trending analysis, integration of legacy IT system data needed to transform today's standard program depot maintenance requirements packages. In addition, the engineer will lead a small team to develop the strategy and roadmap needed to execute this 3-4-year effort. Strong collaboration skills are needed to coordinate across various stakeholders in order to identify requirements, priorities, user stories, and associated data, skills, and tools needed to identify and integrate historical maintenance actions accomplished during field maintenance and predict maintenance requirements/tasks that should be accomplished during the next scheduled overhaul. The final deliverable will be a prototype software system that leverages artificial intelligence technology to predict future depot maintenance tasks. The prototype will focus on the C-130 weapon system.

The Logistics in a Contested Environment Portfolio is supporting various initiatives to support the United States Air Force (USAF) using modeling, software capabilities, and developing architecture to ensure Logistic processes and systems are transformed to support USAF initiatives. In addition, the PEO Business Enterprise System (BES) portfolio ensures critical business systems needed to enable force agility, readiness, and effectiveness are operational, available, and secure to meet the mission requirements of the United States Air Force (USAF). The position will focus on achieving maximum impact to our sponsors through Logistics in a Contested Environment by solving challenging problems associated with achieving the mission, vision and operation across the sustainment enterprise. The position will focus on creating effects across air, space, and cyber whenever and wherever required to accomplish the mission objectives of the sustainment enterprise.
The primary role of this position is to:
Be a primary resource to support the area of Logistics in Contested Environment initiatives relative to the Operations in Contested Environment Division and the overall Air Force Center. e.g. F35 Logistics solutions such as ODIN, Sustainment Modeling and Simulation and Predictive Maintenance design and implementation.
Work closely with both the Project Leader (PL) and Logistics in a Contested Environment (LCE) Outcome Leads to ensure high impact capabilities are delivered to our sponsor relative to PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) solutions
Coordinate closely with government personnel to ensure the LCE program in context of the Air Force Center continues to understand the emerging challenges, issues, and direction across Air Force portfolio work ranging from the weapon systems integration portfolio to Cyber Security
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of Government personnel as well as with the Department Manager, Project Lead, and the Logistics domain capability area lead.
Bring Air Force Technical knowledge to help identify areas where MITRE can bring the largest impact
Bring Air Force organizational knowledge to help identify who are the government personnel that MITRE should be reaching out to position for high impact work
Lead and help develop Sponsor focused prototypes
Analyze and model alternative system of system solutions for AF business enterprise solutions
Assess existing and emerging DoD IT enterprise infrastructure
Participate in sponsor/MITRE collaborative teams
Develop MITRE quality written reports and presentations
Help the Project Leader and Outcome Leads to identify, prioritize, and execute high impact capability areas such as developing BESPIN strategy, executing BES 2.0 and delivering common solutions across all platforms to ensure maximum impact
Must possess strong strategic expertise for developing strategies, roadmaps, action plans and project plans in order to effectively meet deliveries and milestones.
Must understand agile development methodologies, DevOps and DevOps tools and technologies, agile software development, software security skills and have a minimum of 5 years systems engineering or management experience
BS in a science degree program
At least 10 years' experience in aerospace logistics and or sustainment
within the company and sponsors
Data Analytics, e.g. predictive maintenance technology and capability
Understand the applicability of Machine Learning to Air Force Challenges
User engagement/experience and overall requirements development from an Agile methodology standpoint
Air Force Engineering focused on sustainment requirements and aerospace logistics
Strong willingness to engage and address MITRE/Sponsor objectives
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent analytical skills and ability to develop and mentor junior engineers
