The Center for PreCollege Programs' (CPP) serves more than 2,000 students and parents annually through the facilitation of a variety of programs. It houses three TRIO programs of Talent Search (2) and Upward Bound, PreCollege STEM Academy, Dual Enrollment, University-Assisted Partnerships, the Tutoring Spot, and the Rutgers Future Scholars Program, in addition to other special interest programs. Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking PreCollege Program Specialists. The Center for PreCollege Programs administers precollege and pipeline programs designed to educate, inspire, and prepare students for success in secondary and post-secondary education while promoting a college-going culture.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
Plan, host, and provide post-secondary preparation workshops for students and parents
Advise and counsel about available financial aid opportunities and eligibility requirements
Assist students before, during, and after the financial aid process
Guide students and parents about the college application process
Meet and assist students and parents with the accurate completion of the FAFSA application
Follow established federal guidelines regarding eligibility to reconcile, complete, and award student files.
Review student files and transcripts, ensuring accuracy and eligibility standards are upheld
Stay abreast of available aid opportunities, grants, or awards available for students
Learn, update, and apply aid process, requirements, and all related necessities
Understand and apply university processes and guidelines for aid/awards/grants
Collect, maintain, and update data as appropriate for compliance with university systems and requirements
Additional duties or special projects may be assigned
This position is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding.
Position Status Part Time Hours Per Week Up to 19.5 Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement
This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.
FLSA Nonexempt Position Salary $20-$25hr Payroll Designation PeopleSoft Terms of Appointment Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
Certifications/Licenses Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the FAFSA and college application completion process.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Prior experience working with the pre-college population (middle & high school students)
Equipment Utilized
Desktop computer or laptop, web browsing.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
May be required to lift supplies / boxes up to 20lbs
