The Pre-Professional Scholar Director serves as an information hub for faculty, staff and students; works with N.C. A&T faculty to enhance classroom experiences; and partners with local community organizations to increase students' awareness of career options.

The PPSP engages more than 400 students (current and post-graduate) each year through an annual Student Professional Development Conference, serves as advisors to four campus student organizations (MAPS, NBLSA, PAD and USNDA), and hosts entrance examination preparation classes including the MCAT, DAT, LSAT and GRE.

Students apply to various programs including, but not limited to medical, veterinary, dental, physical therapy, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy and other health professions schools, law school; and graduate school.

The PPO also works with numerous stakeholders including faculty, local, national, and international degree-granting institutions, and professionals to develop and maintain unique partnerships and pathway programs to provide early access to, and preparedness for professional and graduate school and the workforce.

The PPSP staff manages 12 formal pathway programs (3 medical, 1 dental, 2 law, 1 graduate, and 5 allied health), 3 formal mentoring programs, and 1 summer program.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Pre-Professional Scholars Program (PPSP) is to serve as a comprehensive, institutionally supported unit that enhances the educational and professional development of undergraduates, graduate students and post-graduates interested in all areas of Healthcare, Veterinary Medicine, Law and Research.

The overarching goals of PPSP are (1) to create pathways to professional and graduate schools through collaborations with local, national, and international partners, and (2) to provide impactful opportunities that increase students' awareness and access to the professions, and facilitate successful transition into higher education and the workforce.

Minimum Requirements

● Associate or Full professor; PhD

● 5 years of experience in academic administration or a related setting.

● 5 years of experience in pre-health, pre-law, or pre-graduate advising.

● Demonstrated expertise in program development and mentoring.

● Experience in grant writing and attaining funding.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

● Experience working with a diverse population of learners.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills.

● Demonstrated strong management skills.

● Successful track record of establishing credibility and trust.

● Fluency with desktop applications including databases, word processing, presentation, and cloud-based computing.

Required License or Certification Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site)
