Position summary

We are looking for a qualified Pre-Kindergarten Teacher to prepare children ages 4-5 for kindergarten. The Pre-K teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and Pre-Kindergarten educational methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention. The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child so they can thrive in their next level of education and have a lifelong love of learning.

Hours: 8:00-11:30 / 12:30-5:00 M-Th & 8:00 - 11:30 / 12:30-3:00 F

Qualifications summary

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma.

  • Must meet LARA requirements for lead caregiver: a bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a child-related field, associate's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or high school diploma with coursework in child-related field and experience.

  • Must have high energy

  • Must love children.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The Pre-K teacher must be able to lead the classroom and care for children which may include distributing lunches and/or washing dishes.

  • Lead a class without supervision and possibily without additional teachers.

  • Accepts responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playgrounds.

  • Manage day-to-day classroom activities, including structured lessons, free play, bathroom breaks, lunch time and rest time for students

  • Provides the children with verbal praises and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children's behavior.

  • Maintains the Crayon Box's professional attitude and work behavior.

  • Observes all rules and regulations of The Crayon Box and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children.

  • Assists in other capacities, as determined by the Director.

  • Ability to express themselves well in oral and written English

  • Follows the schedule, as determined by the Director.

Supervisory responsibilities

May supervise student workers, as determined by the Director

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma.

  • Must meet LARA requirements for lead caregiver: a bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a child-related field, associate's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or high school diploma with coursework in child-related field and experience.

  • Proven experience as a Pre-K Teacher

  • Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods

  • Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms

  • Excellent communication and instructional skills

  • Ability to act as mediator between children

  • Cool-tempered, friendly, and reliable

  • Must have a warm and friendly personality with sensitivity to the feelings and needs of both children and adults.

  • Display a willingness to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the center's philosophy and mission.

  • Job requires much physical activity and a high energy level.

  • Accuracy and efficiency are required

  • Must be comfortable interacting with the director, parents and other teachers

Physical demands

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 25% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Ability to wear a mask at all times while at work under the current guidelines of The State of Michigan is required.

Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
