As a Pre-Construction Manager/ Design Engineer at Babcock & Wilcox Solar, you will play a vital role in developing and executing tasks of project proposals and design phase of solar energy projects under the supervision of the Director of Pre-Constrution. You will be responsible for completing proposal, development of PV Design of layout with PV electrical 1-line diagrams, and design phase and coordinating efforts between estimating, scheduling, procurement, etc., to develop and manage comprehensive PV layouts and 1 line diagrams for project proposals and design plans that align with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines as assigned by the Director of PreConstruction. Your desire to learn, execute tasks in a timeline fashion and your ability to effectively manage resources and timelines will contribute to the successful execution of solar projects.

Proposal Development:

  • Develop PV plant general layouts with electrical 1 Lines to assist the development of estimates, procurement strategies, and a project execution plan for proposals.

  • Assist and support Pre-Construction Managers throughout the proposal development process by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, estimating, finance, and legal, to gather necessary information, assess project feasibility, and create compelling proposals for solar energy projects.

  • Ensure proposals address clients submission requirements and align with company objectives.

Design Plan Management:

  • Assist and support Pre-Construction Managers throughout the design phase of solar projects, working closely with the engineering team, both internal engineers and Engineers of Record (EOR) to develop detailed system layouts, electrical schematics, and specifications.

  • Ensure designs comply with client's requirements, relevant codes, regulations, and industry best practices.

Resource Coordination:

  • Assist and support Pre-Construction Managers coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to allocate resources effectively, including engineering personnel, manufacturers and vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Ensure all team members have the necessary information and tools to complete their tasks accurately and on time.

Quality Assurance:

  • Follow and execute quality control processes in support of proposal documents, design plans, and technical specifications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

  • Continuously improve the quality of deliverables by incorporating lessons learned and industry advancements.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain and distribute comprehensive documentation related to proposals, design plans, project specifications, and technical requirements.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, business or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of financial and commercial aspects of solar projects is a plus.

  • Proposal Development: Lead the proposal development process by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, estimating, finance, and legal, to gather necessary information, assess project feasibility, and create compelling proposals for solar energy projects. Ensure proposals address client's submission requirements and align with company objectives.

  • Proposal Level Engineering Design Development: Development of detailed layout drawings, electrical schematics, and single-line diagrams for estimators and bidding purposes. Additionally, you will conduct energy yield assessments and performance modeling to forecast the system's output and efficiency using PVSyst, Helioscope or similar. By integrating these tasks seamlessly, you will contribute to the successful execution of solar PV projects, adhering to industry standards and regulatory guidelines while maximizing energy generation potential.

  • Design Plan Management: Oversee the design phase of solar projects, working closely with the engineering team, both internal engineers and Engineers of Record (EOR) to develop detailed system layouts, electrical schematics, and specifications. Ensure designs comply with client's requirements, relevant codes, regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Resource Coordination: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to allocate resources effectively, including engineering personnel, manufacturers and vendors, and subcontractors. Ensure all team members have the necessary information and tools to complete their tasks accurately and on time.

  • Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential risks during the proposal and design phases and develop appropriate mitigation strategies. Collaborate with the project management team to anticipate and address challenges, ensuring project deliverables are achieved within established timelines and budgets.

  • Client Communication: Act as a key point of contact for clients during the proposal and design phases. Maintain regular communication to address their inquiries, provide project updates, and ensure their expectations are understood and managed effectively.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control processes to review proposal documents, design plans, and technical specifications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Continuously improve the quality of deliverables by incorporating lessons learned and industry advancements.

  • Review and Submission: Conduct thorough reviews of completed proposals (PAR Meetings) with internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality prior to submission.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to proposals, design plans, project specifications, and technical requirements. Generate reports and progress updates for internal and external stakeholders, highlighting key milestones, risks, and project status.

  • Industry Knowledge: Stay abreast of solar industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes. Apply this knowledge to enhance proposal strategies, design methodologies, and ensure compliance with evolving standards.

  • Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Proven experience in the solar energy industry, specifically in proposal development and design phase management.

  • Strong understanding of solar energy systems, photovoltaic technologies, and related equipment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders at various levels.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools for proposal development, design, and project management.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and the ability to motivate and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge of financial and commercial aspects of solar projects is a plus.
