Job Summary
The Pre-College Advisor provides support and guidance to prospective and newly admitted students by facilitating their enrollment and ensuring these students have the best opportunity to achieve their educational goals while assisting them with their admission and matriculation.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides pre-admissions advisement to prospective and newly enrolled students
Assists students with residency and the financial aid process while resolving student admissions issues
Provides admission, assessment, registration and program information
Uses caseload management technologies to communicate and provide proactive advising to students
Participates in recruitment activities and workshops
Coordinates career themed events in collaboration with faculty and staff
Works collaboratively with high school leadership to develop an annual action plan
Assists students with clarifying their career pathway and selecting a program of study
Serves on College and campus committees
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in higher education or related field and three (3) years of related experience
All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, policies and procedures and programs
Knowledge of academic advising and career development principles and practices, residency and financial aid regulations
Experience advising students in higher education setting
Ability to work collaboratively and independently while taking initiative to create opportunities for recruitment and advising
Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to work effectively with a wide range of constituents and to provide high quality support and customer service constituencies in a diverse community
Ability to apply ethics, logic and critical thinking to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to make evidence based recommendations using relevant data
Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
Ability to interact in a positive manner in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
