The Chattanooga Heart Institute offers the most comprehensive cardiac care available in this region. Founded in 1976, we now have six offices in Tennessee and one in Georgia. Our practice is made up of 29 board-certified cardiologists, three cardiothoracic surgeons and three vascular surgeons. Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Responsible for insuring the necessary pre-certifications are obtained to receive proper reimbursement for scheduled cardiac imaging performed. Each case is evaluated individually to determine the appropriate precertification requirement based on established criteria.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for obtaining all pre-authorizations for planned outpatient cardiac imaging ordered by Chattanooga Heart Institute providers throughout the practice.

  • Interact with coding staff to ensure that medical necessity requirements are met.

  • Ensure timely updates of payer coverage.

  • Maintain vendor and payer worksheets for all cardiac imaging modalities.

  • Track and reconcile pre-authorization denials for process improvement.

  • Notify Manager/Director of documentation improvement opportunities.

  • Utilize payer website to obtain precertification electronically or via phone call per company guidelines.

  • Interact with physicians and assist with peer to peer calls.

  • Provide timely and accurate feedback to Manager - Revenue Cycle should precertification issues arise.

  • Provide timely and accurate precertification approval information to the hospital prior to patients' appointments.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications:

  • Two years' experience with pre-certifications and/or referrals.

The individual in this role is assigned on a daily or extended basis to a particular practice requiring coverage for scheduled and non-scheduled absences, staff turnover, need for coverage during extended recruitment efforts and other similar situations. Position normally involves assignment to off-campus satellite sites and may vary day to day, normally with day-before notice of assignment. This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation. Education: Required: High School graduate or equivalent. De-escalation training, if applicable. Preferred: Familiar with medical terminology associated with orthopedic related injuries. College courses in business, English and general office management or equivalent preferred. Experience: Required: At least one year related experience in a hospital or physician practice setting, demonstrating effective oral/written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as the ability to adapt to change. Preferred: Prior IDX/Invision training desirable. Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: Current valid driver's license and reliable vehicle/transportation. Preferred: N/A Department Position Summary: Performs a wide range of office functions including; computer data entry and word processing, filing, record keeping and reception duties. Provides cross coverage for other similar positions within the practice as required. Assumes medical records responsibilities including filing documents appropriately within records, general maintenance of the file room, chart copying, faxing and mailing out records as directed. Answers department phone to take and relay messages, responding to questions within level of knowledge and authority. Enters lab and/or radiology orders into computer during busy times. Sorts and distributes mail and performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for updating and managing electronic patient registration system to include obtaining referrals/pre-certs and records on new patients. All activities demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to relate well to people of a broad socioeconomic mix, with sensitivity to the delicate nature of the department. Work is performed in a typical office setting with some stressful situations requiring personal flexibility.
