Position Summary

The individual in this position will develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program available for all students grades 9-12 in the district. Works with all district counselors to provide the vision and leadership for all students. An individual in this position is expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and/or as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in school counseling K-12.

Experience in the role of a school counselor or comparable position preferred.

Experience at the Secondary level is preferred.

Demonstrated success working with and through people at all levels of the organization in establishing goals, objectives, and action plans to produce expected results.

Knowledge and experience in scheduling, course coding, and assessments

Ability to be flexible and open to change.

Possess a good-natured demeanor willing to cooperate with students, administrators, staff, and parents

Ability to present and speak in front of large groups.

Positive communication skills are a must.

Must be able to successfully perform the following essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation

Leadership

Lead the counseling team in the strategic, operational, and tactical planning for the development, evaluation, and coordination of all district guidance and counseling services

Coordinates and communicates with the guidance and counseling team in terms of performance, responsibilities, and productivity in achieving the district's priorities and expected results

Coordinates with appropriate district staff on information systems, communications, and student management systems initiatives.

Develops and maintains guidance and counseling policies and standards relating to the acquisition, implementation, and operation of a comprehensive counseling program

Motivates, assists, and develops all staff within the guidance counseling team

Guides the counseling team test coordinators through state-mandated assessments and delivers training/attends state required training.

Serves as the lead counselor for SEL education for all levels.

Serves as the lead iCAP coordinator for grades 6-12.

Enhance professional growth through an ongoing program of reviewing current professional literature, attending workshops, seminars, conferences, and or/enrolling in advanced course work at institutions of higher learning

Collaborate with other district counselors to assist students in affective grade level transitions

Planning

Ensures the organizational structure is appropriate for supporting the District's current and future guidance needs

Leads and coordinates the development of the infrastructure to ensure key educational strategies and processes are supported by systems that enable growth and flexibility

Communicates the guidelines of OK Promise to students and parents. Ensures the qualifying courses are taken.

Athletic Academic Advisor to inform students and parents in grades 8-12 of all NCAA requirements.

Ensures credit checks and graduation requirements are met by students.

Provides College & Career guidance, organizes and hosts iCAP and FAFSA events for students and parents.

Assist in referral and placement of students with special needs

Assist in referral, individual testing, and placement of students in the Gifted and Talented program

Maintain appropriate documentation

Plan, implement and evaluate the guidance program

Coordinate school and community resources to address identified student needs

Coordinate and/or participate in crisis intervention

Serve as a member of the medication team

Coordinate grade-level enrollment and scheduling

Oversees concurrent and career tech enrollment and reporting

Assist students in course selection, scheduling, and schedule changes

Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through interpretation of standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and work with students involving educational and occupational plans in terms of such evaluations

Encourage students to participate in school and community activities

Provide orientation for new students

Make recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships, and provide student information to colleges and potential employers upon student and/or parent request (secondary)

Procure and distribute applications for college admissions tests (secondary)

Coordinate financial aid, career, and other informational programs (secondary)

Arrange university and military recruiter visits (secondary)

Monitor and track graduation progress

Assist with graduation activities including ordering senior announcements and caps and gowns, organizing senior awards assemblies, organizing graduation practice and ceremony (secondary)

Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality

Serve as a consultant on health issues

Complete eligibility documentation for outside agencies and programs (i.e. SSI, VA, Upward Bound, etc.)

Address Pyramid of Intervention referrals

Scheduling and advisement for concurrent and foreign exchange students

Coordinate assignment requests for students unable to attend school

Facilitate the process for online, home-based, and Alternative education supplications

Serve on advisory boards as requested

Other duties assigned by the principal or designee

Communication

Demonstrates proven skills in all written, electronic and verbal communication

Demonstrates the ability to relate to all levels of the user community; sets and manages priorities, and translates technical language to lay audiences

Communicates with related stakeholders on projects

Communicate with teachers and other staff members to inform them of the services offered by the guidance program

Serve as the District and Building Test Coordinator

Counsel students experiencing academic difficulties and collaborate with staff in an effort to prevent students from dropping out

Parent consultations

Collaborate with faculty to address student behavioral issues

Assist students in developing and maintaining the self-discipline necessary for learning

Assist in maintaining positive communication between students, faculty, and parents

Inform students about job opportunities and obtaining worker permits (secondary)

Coordinate Gordon Cooper tours (secondary)

Collaborate with Gordon Cooper staff to facilitate the application and interview process (secondary)

Maintain communication with Gordon Cooper staff regarding current GC/PHS students' progress (secondary)

Establish and moderate Counseling Program Advisory Committee

Professional Development

Works with the Instructional Team to create and maintain annual Professional Development needed for the guidance counseling department

Regulations and Policies

Ensures compliance to all U.S. and State Department of Education rules and regulations

Ensures compliance to all Board policies

Critical Thinking Skills

Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions

Establishes key metrics and measures of department performance in the achievement of the district's goals

Possesses knowledge of sound business principles and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues that exist in K-12 education

Possesses knowledge of strategic and operational planning, personnel administration, federal, state, and local laws, financial and cost analysis, and trends in K-12 education
