Position Overview: The Practice Group Business Manager will provide operational support to the Firm's Advocacy practice groups with the aim of driving and enhancing practice performance in line with the Firm's strategic objectives. The Manager will work closely with practice leaders to implement strategic initiatives, manage daily operations, as well as cultivate and execute business processes

  • Instrumental in developing and implementing strategic plans, including financial, marketing, legal project management, technology, and business development activities.

  • Works with Practice Group Leaders (PGLs) and other Professional Business Service (PBS) team members to develop, monitor, analyze and review annual practice-level financial goals and targets, and works to drive improvements to ensure alignment with planned targets.

  • Partners with PGLs and PBS team members to ensure cross-practice and cross-functional initiatives are implemented at the practice group (PG) level.

  • Ensures appropriate resourcing model, headcount planning, staffing, succession planning, and talent pipeline leveraging support from and in coordination with other PBS functions.

  • Collaborates in the development of, and monitors to ensure effective implementation of, Partner business development plans, leveraging support working in coordination with other PBS functions.

  • Assists in the development and creation of PG meeting agendas and presentations.

  • Identifies tools to assist in practice growth, analysis of viability of potential new business, and forecasting trends that will affect existing or potential new business.

  • Partners with other PBS functions to bring training opportunities to the PG related to practice management technology, resources, and other tools that facilitate productivity and business development goals.

  • Working in coordination with PGLs, oversees PG budget and expenses.

  • Oversees Associate utilization, reporting issues to PGLs and Professional Development Team regularly.

  • Responsible for work allocation and staffing recommendations within PG, taking into account utilization and development needs and desires.

  • Works with accounting department to produce financial reports for PGLs, monitors same and reports to the PGL.

  • Works with PGLs to develop, implement, and update knowledge management portals in collaboration with IT.

  • Other projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required. J.D. or M.B.A. strongly preferred. 5+ years of experience in strategic planning, leadership, financial analysis/reporting, legal operations management, and/or legal marketing in a law firm. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to manage projects in a collaborative fashion. Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Strong technological proficiency. Requires regular and predictable attendance during the assigned work schedule. Ability to travel to other offices as needed.

Position Requirements: Bachelors Degree preferred. *5-10 years of relevant business development experience in lending, with a preference for asset-based lending experience. *Must have an established and effective network of referral sources. Generate a minimum of 50-75 leads each year, resulting in a minimum of 10 term sheets issued and 4-5 deal closings. *Travel is a significant requirement for this position. Expectation is that the BDO will travel about 50% of the time. *Must have an entrepreneurial attitude, and when working remotely, must be able to wisely manage time and expenses. *Must conduct self in a professional manner at all times, and in all business situations reflecting a courteous, conscientious, and sophisticated and businesslike manner in all dealings.
