Job Description:

Serves as an administrative liaison to surgical patients throughout all phases of surgery.
1.Meets with surgical candidates to educate and guide them through the various steps leading up to surgery.

  • Schedules and coordinates pre-surgical testing appointments for patients.

  • Provides follow-up and reschedules missed appointments with patients, as needed.

  • Verifies insurance coverage for elective surgeries, high dollar services and patients with on-going courses of treatment. Arranges for alternative payment methods, as needed.

  • Provides educational literature and ensures all appropriate forms are completed and signed by both physician and patient.

  • Answers non-clinical questions and ensures patients' needs are addressed.

  • Provides administrative support and customer service at department's pre-surgical information seminars attended by surgical candidates.
    2.Facilitates post surgery follow-up with patients to ensure patient satisfaction.
    3.Administers patient surveys, gathers results and reports findings to management.
    4.Maintains comprehensive patient database consisting of pre-surgical status, post-operative outcomes, patient satisfaction, complicating factors, etc.
    5.Gathers various department metrics and provides reports to management.
    6.Recommends and supports department performance improvement activities.
    7.Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • HighSchool Diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Minimumof three (3) years administrative support experience, required.

  • Workingknowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), required.

Excellent customer service, interpersonal, oral,written and presentation skills, required.

Responsible for planning, assessing, educating, counseling, coordinating care, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating nutritional care plans of high acuity/medically complex patients. Collaborates closely with metabolic genetics team, including medical geneticists, nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, social workers, insurance providers, nutritional product suppliers, and administrative staff. Will participate in developing medical nutrition therapy practice guidelines, facilitating formula authorization, menu modifications, and other nutritional related functions, including nutritional counseling in individual or group settings. Responsible for documenting nutrition care plans in the patient medical record, according to Health System policies and procedures. Responsibilities Include: * Responsible for planning, assessing, educating, counseling, coordinating care, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating nutritional care plans of patients with inherited metabolic disorders. * Assists in appropriate and timely response to abnormal metabolic screens for newborn patients. * Assists in sick-day nutritional management of patients with inherited metabolic disorders. * Evaluates individual needs, develops nutritional care plans, and instructs individuals with inherited metabolic disorders, and their caregivers and families. * Develops medical nutrition therapy practice guidelines, protocols, curriculum, and nutrition education materials. * Coordinates follow up nutritional laboratory and dietary assessments and plans therapeutic changes based on results. * Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history. * Assesses patients and documents in patients' medical record, according to Health System policies and procedures. * Recommends nutrition care plans to metabolic program clinical team for review and consideration. * Recommends therapeutic diet modifications and/or supplemental feedings to physicians for patients. * Provides nutritional education, instruction, guidance and counseling to patients and their caregivers and families. Provides written material as needed and according to prescribed diet. * Provides counseling to individuals and groups on nutritional practices, promoting healthy eating habits and recommending dietary modifications. * Collaborates with patient advocacy and support groups to provide educational and related opportunities to patients, caregivers, and families. * Supports teaching of physicians, advanced care practitioners, allied health professionals, dietetic students, genetic counseling students, and medical students. * Contributes to academic and research projects and studies. * Works with insurance companies and nutritional suppliers to obtain authorization for nutritional formulas and products. * Works with nutritional suppliers to update inventories and monitor for product recalls. * Performs any and all related duties. Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Food, Nutrition or Dietetics, required. * Master's Degree, preferred. * Registered Dietitian, required. * Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, preferred. * Prior experience caring for metabolic patients, preferred.
