This role qualifies for a sign-on bonus of $750, making it a great opportunity to join the BWH - MGB team Primary Responsibilities 1. Triage all New Patient in-take phone calls to adding to appropriate clinic/MD.

Extensive phone contact with new patients, ensuring they are well informed as to medical information needed, location of offices, details of impending visits, etc. As the patient's first contact with Thoracic Surgery, plays an integral role in the positive image desired by the Division and the Hospital. 2. Obtain all new patient in-take information, including all demographics information, relative/emergency contact information, insurance information, financial clearances, diagnoses, allergies, prior cancer histories and treatments, referring and PCP MD information and a check list of other needed information. 3.

Check the patient's insurance eligibility and referral needs to ensure the practice receives full reimbursement for new patient visits. 4. Schedule new patient and post-operative appointments in Epic, confirming date, time and location of appointment and appropriate MD. Call the patients the day before their visit to confirm all information, remind them of bringing necessary paperwork, pathology slides and films.

Confirm that patients are informed about directions, parking and the process for their first appointment including the amount of time required for the appointment. 5. Ensure all new patient charts are prepped (both temp and electronic chart) by including all the medical information pertaining to the patient is available for the surgeon from various sources within and outside the hospitals, clinics and MD offices. This will include all necessary radiology films, pathology slides, in addition to written reports and by updating the physician database as well as the patient demographics.

Emergency, walk-in, and add-on patients may also be possible requiring a quick turnaround for new patients. 6. Assist in making any necessary travel, hotel arrangements, and financial arrangements for patients that are coming from out of the state or country. 7. Scan all appropriate records into the Epic system upon receipt under proper index information to allow others the ability to locate such records in the future.

Scan all outside medical records for division of Thoracic Surgery. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required; post-high school education preferred. Minimum one year of applicable work experience required.

Additional training in office systems preferred. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of practice operations and standards.

Understanding of procedures including filing, copying, scanning, printing, and faxing. Ability to use phone system (answer and screen calls, put on hold), answer routine questions, and give routine information. Ability to interpret information as appropriate, answer routine questions in the most professional manner, and communicate in a professional, courteous, clear, and concise manner.

Ability to manage work processes in a neat and orderly way and to sort and alphabetize. Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, follow established protocols, and work within systems. Ability to correspond and communicate with others clearly and effectively in writing (via e-mail, memo, or interoffice note) and to take complete and accurate messages.

Ability to type and enter data at an entry level. Entry level understanding of applicable systems. Understanding of the appropriate use and importance of related forms.

Basic understanding and use of medical terminology. Basic comprehension of insurance types and referral process. Basic comprehension of registration and fiscal information.

Knowledgeable and compliant with all hospital, State, and Federal requirements (where applicable to job performance), including policy and procedures with The Joint Commission and HIPAA. WORKING CONDITIONS: Hospital based ambulatory practice.

Normal patient environments where there are some exposures to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, needle, and blood products. HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES: Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and Partners policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or Partners, as appropriate; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff.
