Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) is responsible for meeting the child care and early education needs of Georgia's children and their families. It administers the nationally recognized Georgia's Pre-K Program, licenses child care centers and home-based child care, administers Georgia's Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program, federal nutrition programs, and manages Quality Rated, Georgia's community powered child care rating system.
The department also houses the Head Start State Collaboration Office, distributes federal funding to enhance the quality and availability of child care, and works collaboratively with Georgia child care resource and referral agencies and organizations throughout the state to enhance early care and education.
Position Overview
DECAL's Practice and Support Services unit includes:
Child and Family Development Program, the team that oversees the CDC's Learn the Signs Act Early developmental monitoring initiative in Georgia and the Family Peer Ambassador program;
Inclusion and Behavior Support Program, which includes the SEEDS for Success Helpline and professional development for child care professionals focused on social-emotional health and the inclusion of children of all abilities;
Infant Toddler Program, which supports early language and literacy initiative with child care professionals and families through the LITTLE grant and other projects.
The Marketing and Outreach Intern will support the Practice and Support Services unit in creating and coordinating marketing materials and social media strategies to promote DECAL's services to families, early childhood educators and providers. The intern will report to the Practice and Support Services Outreach and Project Manager.
Duties may include:
Assists with the coordination of the Early Childhood Educator of the Year program; including scheduling events and interviews, and attending on site child care program finalist announcements.
Attends and assists with preparation for Inclusion and Behavior Support, Infant Toddler, and Child and Family Development program events, including virtual and in-person trainings, family peer ambassador meetings, early childhood conferences, or other community events as needed.
Develops and coordinates social media activities for the Child and Family Development, Infant Toddler and Inclusion and Behavior Support programs to promote child development with Georgia families and early learning professionals.
Shadow DECAL's Child and Family Development Training, Infant Toddler, and Inclusion and Behavior Support Specialists to better understand DECAL's work.
Other duties as assigned.

Entry Qualifications:
Currently enrolled student (junior, senior, or graduate student), part-time or full-time, with a 3.0 GPA or higher (must submit transcript to verify enrollment and GPA)
Georgia resident or attending a Georgia college, university, or law school
Working level skill in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Major or minor in early childhood education, child development, human development, family studies, family consumer sciences, or a related degree.
Ability to listen, learn, and quickly incorporate new information into work products
Interest in social media, marketing, and communications
Ability to accept and utilize feedback from peers and supervisors
Bilingual or multilingual
Technical Competencies:
Knowledge of child development or early childhood education best practices
Knowledge of social media platforms
Working level skills in the use of MS office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong time management and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at one time
Physical Requirements
Work is typically performed in an office environment, must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; must be able to exchange accurate information through conversation.
The use of hands/fingers to constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery for data entry purposes, such as a mobile device and a computer printer, is required
The ability to observe details on a computer screen at close range
