Job Title: PRACTICAL NURSING INSTRUCTOR

Location: Cowan Campus

Reports To: Practical Nursing Director

FLSA Status: Exempt, 11 month

Primary Function: Responsible for conducting a competency-based instructional program in practical nursing (PN). Provides students instruction in theory, laboratory, clinicals, and professionalism necessary for licensure.

Essential Job Duties:

1.Teaches students using competency-based instructional methods, consistent with the "Oklahoma Minimum Criteria for Effective Teaching Performance", in the educational setting.

Utilizes the Learning Management System and a variety of instructional materials to enhance the delivery of instruction to accommodate student's learning styles.

Evaluates student achievement based on assignments, tests and lab skill check-offs according to grading policies and procedures.

Provides instruction and supervision in the classroom and skills laboratory.

Maintains accurate student records including attendance and academic progress in the grade book and computer software programs.

Serves as a professional role model for students by involvement and support of the student organization and professional development activities.

Maintains required inventory records on all equipment, supplies, and materials.

Prepares and makes presentations to students in group and online settings.

2.Provides student instruction and supervision in the clinical setting.

Provides input to the PN Director to determine student clinical rotation schedules.

Organizes and provides instructional experiences based on clinical objectives and individual learning needs, maintaining a maximum 1:8 - 10 faculty-student ratio.

Provides instructional leadership at the clinical site and portrays a professional role model for students.

Develops and maintains rapport and communication with clinical affiliate staff.

Makes initial contact with head nurse or charge nurse prior to clinical rotations.

Evaluates student's performance based on clinical objectives and grading criteria.

Organizes and develops curriculum to implement competency-based instruction.

Develops/revises curriculum materials to comply with the school's quality standards and with the practical nursing program's standards.

Develops test questions and correlates to lesson objectives and cognitive domain.

Administers required ATI achievement tests as specified.

Incorporates instructional technology to support best practices for the self-directed learner.

Utilizes appropriate staff to support effective instructional design.

Works cooperatively with the accrediting agencies, the community and other school departments to accomplish the stated goals of the program.

Assists in preparing the program budget; operates within the program budget following established procedures.

Works cooperatively with the Curriculum and Media Department, Job Placement, Educational Enhancement Center or Academic Center, and Marketing Department to meet students' needs and goals for the program.

Works cooperatively with the advisory committee and the health community to prepare students for employment and to maintain positive business and industry relationships.

Assists in maintaining a program that complies with requirements of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) and the Oklahoma Department of Career & Technology Education (ODCTE).

Assists in completing OBN and ODCTE school reports including the annual report and self-study reports. Completes follow-up reports according to established procedures.

Participates as an effective member of the PN faculty team. Uses excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Participates in meetings to conduct ongoing program evaluation and revision according to the program's Systematic Evaluation Plan.

Assists in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising the curriculum, as well as the student handbook policies and procedures.

Performs such other tasks and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Participates in school-wide continuous Strategic Planning efforts.

Maintains professional credentials and CPR certification.

Maintains and documents current personal health records and required vaccinations.

Actively participates in school committees, staff development activities, faculty meetings, and teacher education professional organization activities (HCE, OkACTE, and ACTE).

Qualifications:

Must meet requirements set forth in "The Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act" with Rules and Regulations," Oklahoma Board of Nursing 2023, and hold a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oklahoma. Must have a bachelor's degree in nursing, an associate degree in nursing with evidence of continued progress toward a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing with completion of a minimum of six semester hours per calendar year may be acceptable.
