Pennington Biomedical Research Center,a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking an LPN in the Clinical Trials Unit.
This position will be assigned days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and will receive premium pay for nights and holiday pay.
Working in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act and under the direction of the Clinic Director of Nursing, the Licensed Practical Nurse shall provide direct patient care for volunteers in various research programs that require ambulatory and/or total bed rest on the inpatient unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse shall also complete screenings, consenting, and study visits for specified clinical trials as needed.

Examples of Work
Monitors and regulates infusions and transfusions.
Initiates first aide and CPR.
May perform oral pharyngeal suction.
Directs routine activities and serves as resource to paraprofessionals.
Participates in patient care conference.
Checks vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and records on patient's record.
Gathers information about patient's past and current physical and mental status.
Observes inpatients for changes in physical or mental status and reports significant findings.
Administers oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and documents procedure.
Applies dressings, ointments, and other treatments as ordered and documents procedure.
Assists physicians with routine examinations and treatments.
Bathes, feeds, and makes patients comfortable.
Carries out doctor's orders providing they do not require specialized nursing techniques.
Admits and discharges inmates/patients.
Collects samples for laboratory tests such as; blood and urine.
Reads and records results of simple medical tests.
Exchanges change-of-shift reports.
Makes rounds of assigned area to take patient census and note conditions in respect to cleanliness and sanitation.
Maintains unit supplies and stocks medication.
Checks intravenous therapy insertion sites for redness and reapplies dressing as necessary.
Performs individual and group health teaching as assigned.
