The Powertrain System Validation Engineer is responsible for designing system level testing setup, executing validation items and analyzing validation results. This engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting PT issues in engineering and production vehicle fleets to determine root cause.
Create and manage test cases in Polarion
First point of contact for powertrain issues on the fleet
Verify powertrain electrical and control system function/performance meets specifications
Design powertrain system level testing setup and test cases according to system/subsystem requirements.
Execute powertrain system testing cases, analyze testing results and create reports.
Based on validation result, recommend changes or improvements to hardware, software or calibration
Work with hybrid controls team, powertrain electrical team, powertrain mechanical team and electrical systems team to ensure powertrain system operates as intended
Quickly diagnose vehicle issues and work with other teams to determine root cause and develop solution
General Requirements for consideration
Should be able to demonstrate a background knowledge and functional competence in the following areas:
System Engineering V-cycle development process and targets of each stage
Hybrid Powertrain subsystems
Transmissions, gears and driveline operation
Electric motors / generators
Power Electronics Inverters, High Voltage Subsystems
Powertrain Architecture, Interface and communication.
Control algorithms and control system development and integration
Diagnostics & OBD II
Character traits and related responsibility
Works together with all teams in Powertrain, E/E, Vehicle integration, and have strong project management & teamwork skills
Must display ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments
Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
Undergraduate bachelor's degree in Control or Electrical Engineering
Good oral and written communication skills
5 years of validation/testing responsibility and hands on experience with hybrid/EV powertrain systems
Experience with engineering tools like CANalyzer, INCA, Matlab, oscilloscope
Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required)
Masters of control/software or Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent)
Hybrid/EV Powertrain development with a major OEM on production intent development programs
Knowledge of DC-DC Converters, on board Chargers, energy storage subsystems, Hybrid controls
