The Powertrain System Validation Engineer is responsible for designing system level testing setup, executing validation items and analyzing validation results. This engineer will also be responsible for troubleshooting PT issues in engineering and production vehicle fleets to determine root cause.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage test cases in Polarion

  • First point of contact for powertrain issues on the fleet

  • Verify powertrain electrical and control system function/performance meets specifications

  • Design powertrain system level testing setup and test cases according to system/subsystem requirements.

  • Execute powertrain system testing cases, analyze testing results and create reports.

  • Based on validation result, recommend changes or improvements to hardware, software or calibration

  • Work with hybrid controls team, powertrain electrical team, powertrain mechanical team and electrical systems team to ensure powertrain system operates as intended

  • Quickly diagnose vehicle issues and work with other teams to determine root cause and develop solution

Qualifications

General Requirements for consideration

Should be able to demonstrate a background knowledge and functional competence in the following areas:

  • System Engineering V-cycle development process and targets of each stage

  • Hybrid Powertrain subsystems

  • Transmissions, gears and driveline operation

  • Electric motors / generators

  • Power Electronics Inverters, High Voltage Subsystems

  • Battery Packs

  • Powertrain Architecture, Interface and communication.

  • CAN protocol

  • Control algorithms and control system development and integration

  • Powertrain calibration

  • Diagnostics & OBD II

Character traits and related responsibility

  • Works together with all teams in Powertrain, E/E, Vehicle integration, and have strong project management & teamwork skills

  • Must display ability to identify problems and recommend solutions

  • Must be able to accept personal responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate bachelor's degree in Control or Electrical Engineering

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • 5 years of validation/testing responsibility and hands on experience with hybrid/EV powertrain systems

  • Experience with engineering tools like CANalyzer, INCA, Matlab, oscilloscope

Preferred Qualifications (In addition to required)

  • Masters of control/software or Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent)

  • Hybrid/EV Powertrain development with a major OEM on production intent development programs

  • Knowledge of DC-DC Converters, on board Chargers, energy storage subsystems, Hybrid controls

This Engineer will be focusing on test method development for THV Delivery Systems. In this role, it is expected that the Engineer works with R&D to understand design requirements and intended use of tests in the finished delivery system. The Engineer will work in a fast paced and dynamic environment where taking initiative and collaborating cross-functionally are critical for success. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: * Manages all aspects of assigned test method development projects * Tracks projects and keeps projects to a timely schedule * Drafts, routes, reviews and approves inspection procedures * Performs statistical analysis such as capability, gage R&R, and statistical process control * Collaborates with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and other functions on test method development and inspection-related issues * Provides support for conceptualizing gage and inspection fixture designs. Creates fixture designs as needed * Develops inspection routines with measurement equipment and procures equipment appropriate for the method being developed. Basic / Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical discipline) plus 4 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, R&D, Quality, or Manufacturing; OR Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical discipline) plus 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, R&D, Quality, or Manufacturing * Experience working within a highly regulated industry (i.e. medical device, automotive, aerospace) Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with complex Mechanical Design and Mechanical Systems Integration * Proficiency with design for machining * In-depth knowledge and experience with Test Method Development best practices * Experienced in performing test method validation and Gage R&Rs * Proficiency with Solid Works for modeling, simulation, and designing * Experience with programing automated inspection vision systems * Working knowledge and experience with embedded PLCs * Experience with 3-D printing for rapid design iteration * Automation & Robotics experience preferred * Experienced in performing test method validation and Gage R&Rs * Proven expertise in usage of MS Office Suite * Working knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques * Substantial understanding and knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to Engineering #LI-TR1 #MI Edwards is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer including protected Veterans and individuals with disabilities.
