The Powertrain Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems Senior Manager is responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of NA and export catalyst and aftertreatment specification for vehicle model year release. The position leads a team of approximately 24 engineers; providing direct supervision of advanced system development as well as near-term model release delivering production specification to meet emission standard requirements.
The candidate should be familiar with coating suppliers JMI, Umicore and BASF as well as having good industry contacts at other OEMs and knowledge of their practices. The Powertrain Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems Senior Manager will work with other release responsible managers to meet business requirements including fuel economy, performance and technical cost reduction. The defined project plans should cover all aspects of regional emissions compliance where indicated including development and support plans for regional personnel to cover activities in the region.
The Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems Senior Manager will work with EMEA, APAC and LATAM managers to review regional calibration programs and identify any support needed with regular reviews. The Senior Manager is fully operational responsible for staffing, warranty and budget management. Work may include regular local travel to FCA Chelsea Proving Grounds and suppliers, and infrequent overnight domestic and global travel throughout the year for project planning and verification of development work.
Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent Engineering or Chemistry/Physics degrees from an ABET accredited university with a minimum of 12 years accumulated experience in exhaust aftertreatment development; OR a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited university with minimum of 10 years accumulated experience in exhaust aftertreatment development
Minimum 5 years of experience supervising/managing a group of engineers
Thorough understanding of gasoline and diesel exhaust constituents and exhaust aftertreatment operating principles including physical chemistry of catalytic reactions
Understanding of gasoline and diesel engine, and transmission operating principles including exhaust gas effects of shift torque management and deceleration fuel cut-off events
Understanding of engine air/fuel controls and related aftertreatment sensors operation
Understanding of emissions certification process
Experience improving warranty, outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
Experience in program resourcing estimates, operational budget setting, technical cost reduction, and administration
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Proven leadership skills
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite
Master of Business Administration OR other business or management degree
DFSS Certification (Green or Black Belt)
Multilingual: Italian, Chinese, Portuguese
Controls engineering competency
Experience with engine and OBD calibration and calibration release process
