Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate Technician Foreperson to join our powertrain and electronics team and help build flight-critical components for our EVTOL electric aircraft. The Joby Aviation team is made up of extremely talented, hardworking, proactive, and hands-on individuals, operating in a very fast-paced and rewarding environment. Responsibilities

As a Production Foreperson, you will lead daily operations and build activities with our manufacturing team members within your assigned build area to ensure that planned tasks are meeting expectations while sustaining a high quality, safe work environment. The ideal candidate must have a broad background with the ability to work with all cross functional teams that include engineering, production control and quality members.

Joby's Production Foreperson will be the first level of support to the line operations team and will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining a smooth production flow. The roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Review manual instructions and provide feedback to Production Supervisors

  • Daily allocation of technician assignments within the assigned build area

  • Ensures that all personnel thoroughly understand the quality and process requirements of their assigned position

  • Ensure that equipment calibration dates on work centers are within required specifications and contact appropriate personnel to recalibrate as required

  • Responsible for notifying QA and Supervisor when tests or inspections do not pass

  • Ensures that the room remains clean throughout the production run in compliance with 5s requirements

  • Responsible for reporting downtime to upper management and cross functional teams

  • Provides daily build plan along with build status updates to the supervisor on a regular basis throughout the shift

  • Report safety violations, hazards and ensure PPE compliance of other technicians.

  • Be hands on, build, troubleshoot, and rework with engineering, production technician and production associates

  • Verify and maintain shift readiness including safety, equipment, materials, and tooling

  • Seek continuous improvement opportunities to eliminate waste

  • Ensure team members have been adequately trained for an assigned Work Center

Required

  • Able to work in fast-paced and R&D and Pilot Production environment

  • Works well under tight deadlines and maintains a positive attitude

  • Motivated and has a strong desire and drive to learn new systems and processes

  • Can adapt constant changing work assignments

  • Escalate unresolved issues to supervisor and/or line support team

  • Participates and leads daily team meetings (Start of shift and end of day)

  • Contributes with continuous improvement activities to improve efficiency

  • Encourages teamwork and leads by example

  • Must be detail and quality oriented

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and be a motivator of people

  • Ability to lift 25-30lbs

  • Able to remain focused, strategically prioritizes work assignments

Desired

  • 2+ years of experience leading teams of people in a production and R&D environment

  • Previous experience as an NPI, Engineering or Production/Manufacturing technician

  • Experience preferred in fast-paced production environment

  • Proficient with MS Office, including experience using Excel

  • Experience in high pressure production environments

  • Experience interacting effectively with a variety of individuals within and between departments

  • Can multitask and make sudden adjustments to priorities if needed

  • Able to operate multiple equipment per SOP and basic hand tools. (electric and manual)Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $27 to $35 per hour. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
