Southern CaliforniaEdison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D)is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, andmaintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion inassets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents viaSCE's 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview:

This position will be inthe Grid Operations division within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Transmission& Distribution Organization Unit. The successful candidate will performtechnical studies that evaluate outage requests to ensure that an acceptablelevel of reliability is maintained while minimizing cost impacts to the O&MBudget.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and support to the Grid Control Center (GCC) on technical issues related to operations of the SCE transmission systems, including remedial action schemes, system operating bulletins, and operating procedures.

  • Perform technical studies to identify coordination issues of multiple equipment outages; prepare and deliver the Daily Checkout in support of the GCC Transmission Dispatchers in order to keep them apprised of the next day's scheduled outages.

  • Interface with the California ISO in processing and approving scheduled outages of the bulk electric system and interface with Operating Engineering in determining adequacy of reliability by simulating requested equipment outages.

  • Assist the Program Engineers in coordinating outages in support of capital project work

  • Interface with switching center personnel to ensure that proper processes and procedures are followed in submitting requests for equipment outages.

  • Maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices; and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eight years or more of experience in electric system operations.

  • Two years or more of experience conducting technical studies, performing analyses, coordinating outages on the electric system, and developing recommendations.

  • Two years or more of experience with bulk electric system operations, including demonstrated knowledge and experience with ISO operations and control of the generation and transmission system.

  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word Excel

  • Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field

  • NERC Certified System Operator.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NERC standards, WECC policies, CAISO procedures

Under the guidance from supervision, the candidate will perform analysis and provide recommendations to address minor technical issues as they relate to Real-Time reliability operation and control of an electric utility as well as implementation and deployment of the replacement or enhancement of a Real-Time Power System Network Modeling and Applications. The candidate will also closely work with the business clients to understand their requirements. The candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, deploying and maintaining real-time Power System Network Modeling and Applications associated with transmission and distribution operations or additional new functionality with minimum supervision. The candidate will provide support on minor technical issues associated with Real-Time Advanced Applications Tools (e.g. Power System Network Modeling, State Estimator, and Contingency/Security Analysis and Real-Time Study environment) and/or custom power system applications. The candidate will maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices in addition to providing support with all other duties Minimum Qualifications * Graduated within the past 24 months with an undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Management or related technical discipline or will obtain degree by December, 2018 Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree in Power System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Management or equivalent. * Experience in Energy Management System, Substation Automation, Distribution Automation, etc. * Engineer-In-Training (EIT) License in Electrical Engineering * Demonstrated knowledge of Energy Management System advanced applications (State Estimation and Contingency Analysis), GE Positive Sequence Load Flow. * Knowledge and applied experience in the implementation of Electrical Power System Model and Advanced Applications. * Knowledge of C programming, SQL, Linux and various scripting language. * Demonstrated experience developing and presenting technical and business information in formal and informal settings. * Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms to both technical and non-technical personnel, including internal and external customers. * Demonstrated ability to influence others and maintain positive working relationships. * Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts in manner which results in win-win solutions for all the parties involved. * Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint * Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface effectively with clients, peers and all levels of management. * Must demonstrate strong ethics and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and engage in continuous learning.
