Power Quality Specialist
This job will require the safe resolution of power quality problems for external customers and internal Business Units through the collection and analysis of customer electrical data (voltage, current, transients, harmonics, etc), utility system operations information and an understanding of how these components interact. Electrical data is gathered by connecting monitoring devices to energized parts. This job is focused on customer service and assisting other departments meeting their goals. Safety Excellence is a priority. The work location will be determined based on where the successful candidate lives in the state.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical degree preferred); Accredited Associates in Engineering or Electronics; or five years of experience in a related field
Region Distribution Engineering experience
Substation Test Engineering experience
Transmission Engineering experience
Knowledge of electrical operations, distribution systems, substations, transmission systems preferred
Capable of working safely with little supervision
Knowledge of the National Electric Code
Knowledge of online information systems including Distview, PQView, Trouble Call Management System (TCMS) etc
Completion of Integrated Transmission System (ITS) substation training required for ITS key
Understanding of GPC structure and Region operations
Effective oral and written communication skills
Must be available for emergency assistance after work hours, weekends and extended out of town storm duty
Employee's primary job responsibility is to work with customers and other GPC groups to find and solve Electric Power Quality issues. These could be on the customer's premise or caused by the operation of the power company's transmission and distribution system.
Employee will install electricity monitors and interpret the data from them to find and correct the issues.
Employee must possess an in-depth understanding of GPC structure and Region operations as many customer power quality issues are related to the operation of the company's Distribution, Transmission and Generation systems.
Employee must possess excellent technical and communication skills as they will be expected to occasionally serve on system committees and provide training to internal/external customers throughout Georgia Power Company. Employee will be seen as a technical resource within Georgia Power Company
Employee must possess a strong working knowledge of online information systems including Distview, PQView, and Trouble Call Management System (TCMS) etc.
Employee must be available for emergency assistance after work hours, weekends and extended out of town storm duty
