POSITION OBJECTIVES: This is an introductory level temporary position that will assist and support the Maintenance crew. The employee holding this position is expected to be working toward an education/career path related to boiler operations, process controls, heat distribution, or mechanical or electrical engineering.
The position is responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks associated with the operation of the CHPP system maintenance. Assignments include assisting maintenance personnel in maintaining CHPP equipment and machinery through the completion of preventative and corrective maintenance work orders, cleaning, organizing inventory, and expediting duties in support of the CHPP operations. The position will normally work alongside a Maintenance crewmember.
1.Perform labor related duties in support of the CHPP maintenance crews.
2.Maintain all areas of the plant by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning or painting.
3.Assist CHPP maintenance personnel in basic maintenance tasks under direction and supervision of a more experienced maintenance person.
4.Gain experience and qualifications to progress toward receiving certification(s) related to boiler operations, controls, or mechanical or electrical engineering.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Hands on knowledge or interest about machines, installation and use of tools and mechanical fittings.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is primarily indoors where employee is subject to exposure to abnormal heat hazards or ash and coal dust.
The work environment is typically a noise hazard area requiring the use of hearing protection. Employee must be safety conscious and abide by all company, federal and state safety mandates. Employee is required to properly wear and use safety equipment as required by the situation, including hearing protection, respirators, coveralls, hard hats, safety glasses and safety shoes.
The work can be physically demanding. Work may require stooping, bending, climbing and standing. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds overhead, 75 pounds below waist, and 100 pounds in tandem with a co-worker.

8.Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1.High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
2.Currently in pursuit of obtaining State of Alaska Boiler Operator certification, enrolled or will enroll in a vocational program related to the industry, or in pursuit of an electrical or mechanical engineering degree.
3.Valid Alaska Driver's License with clean driving record.
