PREFERRED CANDIDATES will have the ability to or knowledge of:
Operate, diagnose, troubleshoot computer controlled equipment and control systems for building automation
Knowledge of fire and security systems,
Hot Water/Chilled Water Systems, Cooling Tower System, Emergency Generator Operations, Building Climate Control System
fundamentals for Air Handling Unit Systems, variable air mixing boxes, variable frequency drive fans and pumps, kitchen equipment appliances, exhaust hoods and fans, high pressure air conditioning units.
Strong aptitude on how cooling and heating systems equipment and controls respond to load changes from different parts of the system in relation to outdoor air temperatures.
Be able to respond and predict possible control false or misleading readings from the system computer application or sensor indications.
Perform readings on all designated equipment, such as, Chillers, Hot Water Fire Tube Boilers, various Hot Water Heaters, Emergency Generators, various Hydronic Heating Pumps, Centrifugal Chilled Water - Tower Water-Hot Water Pumps, Cooling Towers, Fuel Oil Tank Level Monitoring and perform waste water system maintenance for lift stations and forced main.
Test and monitor Water Treatment for Closed Loop Hot Water and Chilled Water, Cooling Tower water systems for proper water purification.
Preventing corrosion of metal internal surfaces, interruption of water flows (clogged strainers,) damage of water pump impellers, fowling of condenser tube coils, build-up on sensors and instrument probes and devises - resulting in false signals to control systems.
Monitor water softener operation and salt usage for the Laundry Washers water usage.
Monitor Domestic Water Heat Exchangers, drinking water and shower Tempered Water Systems.
Perform all assigned preventative maintenance on above listed equipment scheduled according to manufacturer's recommendations.
Working knowledge of hand tools to perform preventative maintenance.
Be able to climb, lift, and bend to carry components.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Experience equal to four years of full-time work in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, centralized air-conditioning or electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems;
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours of accredited coursework in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers from a military school or a recognized trade or vocational school or an area college for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of one year;
employees with current continuous experience in the state Executive Branch that includes experience equal to two years of full-time work as a Power Plant Engineer 3.

Within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority, certain employees in this class may be required to obtain a Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License in accordance with Chapter 100D, Iowa Code.
