The Iowa Veterans Home is looking to fill a Power Plant Engineer 4 position. This position will utilize specialized skill sets to perform tasks involved with the Maintenance/Operations and Repairs (MO&R) of all equipment housed within the Power Plant, more correctly described as the Centralized Heating and Cooling Plant (CHCP), and associated equipment/systems outside (downstream) of the Building Plant.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Operate any/all boilers independently of Computerized Building Automation System (CBAS) based on building/system load conditions
Perform daily physical rounds in the CHCP for observation of equipment/piping/valves, etc., to ensure integrity and proper function
Perform water analysis on boilers and chillers routinely
Manage the CHCP (boilers, chillers, and associated equipment) as it is designed to operate through the CBAS software.
Perform Preventative Maintenance on boilers, chillers, and associated equipment on regular scheduled intervals utilizing the manufacturer's recommended time frames.
This position will rotate after hours/on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays, with other staff familiar with CHCP operations.
This position will have lead worker duties associated with it.

Under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS's) new vaccine mandate for healthcare workers (published on November 5, 2021 and affirmed by the United States Supreme Court on January 13, 2022), all potential employees of this facility must have received, at a minimum, the first dose of a primary series or a single dose vaccine OR have an approved religious or medical exemption (as determined by the Iowa Veterans Home) OR have documentation reflecting a temporary delay in vaccination (as determined by the agency in accordance with CDC allowances), prior to the start date. Candidates shall coordinate with agency staff to ensure all requirements are met before the individual provides any care, treatment, or other services for the facility and/or its residents.Experience equal to four years of full-time work in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, centralized air-conditioning or electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems;
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours of accredited coursework in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers from a military school or a recognized trade or vocational school or an area college for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of one year;
employees with current continuous experience in the state Executive Branch that includes experience equal to two years of full-time work as a Power Plant Engineer 3.
