Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Power & Energy Operations Director for immediate employment in the Chicago, IL office. As a Director you will be responsible for cultivating private and public client relationships and leads that result in smart energy, energy efficiency, strategic energy management and utility program development. The primary area of focus will be National, and target major utility, public and commercial/industrial and institutional customers.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Will be involved in identifying, developing, and proposing new smart energy and energy efficiency projects; negotiating partnerships and alliances; structuring and closing transactions; managing senior-level relationships internally and externally; and maintaining a sharp focus on the client during project implementation

  • This individual will be required to meet established targets and goals

  • Will build collaborative and cross-region solutions for the Smart Energy and Energy Efficiency Businesses

  • Developing a plan to achieve revenue and margin targets, and achieving those goals

  • Recruiting and building a team of business/project development and delivery/management professionals to support the smart energy and energy efficiency business pipeline you will develop

  • Coordinating the transition of business pursuits and closed sales to project delivery teams and overseeing the successful execution of retro-commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning and strategic energy management assignments will be an important responsibility of the Director

  • Refinement of project execution tools and processes is expected

  • Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation with an acute passion for developing energy efficiency, strategic energy management and smart energy solutions

  • Critical requirements include teamwork skills, knowledge of the energy management and energy efficiency industries, strong business development skills, and the ability to develop high quality and creative opportunities in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in energy and environmental policy, engineering or other related field

  • 15+ years of relevant business development and relationship building experience related to the energy/power industry

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (IE: previous experience with presentations)

  • Superb team management abilities including previous experience leading teams and mentoring staff

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, creative problem-solving, and leadership skills

  • Proven expertise in business development and market strategy development/execution with demonstrated revenue achievement related to energy efficiency, utility programs and retro-commissioning and monitoring-based commissioning.

  • Working knowledge of the energy efficiency, utility and distributed energy resource markets and beneficial networking connections with public and private clients in and around the Chicago metro area, Midwest and nationally

  • A general knowledge of the financial, technical and political aspects driving both the energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, smart energy and utility industries and energy infrastructure development (Utility energy efficiency programs, statewide energy planning, building optimization, data analytics and renewables and, energy conservation measures)

  • Self-directed personality with a commitment to excellence

  • Previous experience working for and leading high performing energy consulting teams and organizations

  • Networking capabilities within the utility and energy efficiency industries

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20+ years of relevant business development and relationship building experience related to the energy/power industry

  • Demonstrated experience building successful retro-commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning consulting practices

  • Demonstrate successful financial closing of multiple energy efficiency projects program and consulting projects (e.g. utility energy efficiency programs, commercial client strategic energy management engagements)

  • Provide financial past performance portfolio

  • Experience managing business development and project execution teams/pursuits

  • Sustainability, climate or corporate strategy experience a plus but not a requirement

Experience requirements include: * B.S. (minimum) in Electrical Engineering is required; * Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is required, or ability to obtain within one year; * At least 2 years' experience in the development and implementation of power process electrical systems or transmission and distribution networks; * Demonstrated experience including project execution while meeting established schedule and budget requirements; * Understanding of protection system design; * Ability to direct the production of design packages using 3D AutoCAD, Revit or equivalent is required; * System modeling using SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar modeling software is preferred. * Some travel required.
